this is going to seem like a seriously stupid question but its not something i have had to think about before so bare with me :o

i have always had horses with pulled manes so now i have Rio and all his lovely long thick mane, im now wondering what the hell im going to do with it this winter!!

my thing is he may not be wearing a neck so if he rolls his mane is going to be an absolute state and with the fading day light etc, i dont have 5 hours to be brushing mud out of it!

so this obvious conclusion would be to plait it but does that not pull on the hair and pull it out? and also do you do a running plait or just lots of ordinary plaits? also do you take them out daily or is it okay to leave them plaited for a week or so then brush it out?

sorry really stupid questions but i have to learn some how! how do people deal with these things?! :)

thank youu!!

I have the same problem, I will be perfecting my running plait skills this Winter. Her most recent one stayed in nicely for a week and no damage to the mane that I have noticed. I think it is protective as you won't be brushing at it, breaking the hairs and pulling them out while it is tucked away in a plait.

The other geldings may take the mick out of him but who cares :)

i have the running plaits down to an art now! so thats alright but do you band them in or stitch? stitching would last longer but you know i dont know... ahhh im useless!!
