Now - not wishing to sound stupid.......... my new female boxer has just come into season. I understand that this will last for approx 21 days - is that correct? Will she bleed for that entire time? I have no intentions to breed from her - she has already had two litters from her previous owner. Just wondering about how long i will be cleaning it off my carpets!!

In my experience it tends to be on and off over 3 weeks but heavier at first. It goes a more brownish colour when it gets to the end. Its worth noting that the 4 days after bleeding has finished is the bitches most fertile period so please keep her away from naughty boys during this time if you don't want to breed from her!! Are you thinking of having her spayed after? It will reduce her risk of mammory tumours and is the best option if you don't want to breed.

Hi - yeah i think i will get her spayed but we haven't had her a week yet - typical hey! I was more concered about her peeing on the carpet every night - now at least this is something different to clear up in the mornings!

Echo the above.

Also find out from the previous owner when her last season was because you have to get it at the right time before having her spayed - something to do with the hormone balance - she'll need to be done roughly half way between this one finishing and the next one starting.

She wont bleed for the entire time, when the bleeding finishes and there is a slight discharge, this is when she is very fertile, so keep a close eye on her for that week.
