Argh!!
I've recently started hacking out Kelly's daughter B (who is much the same as Kelly....very 'looky' and lots of fun to ride!) and she's been very good!
However this morning, we were having a quiet mooch round the estate when all of a sudden a Royal Mail van sped up behind us at god knows what speed - B spooked, but instead of slowing down, the driver revved behind us and then sped past us causing B to kick out (she didn't catch the van)!
As we caught up with him I asked him politely if he'd mind slowing down as he passed horses next time and got a load of backchat about how he was only doing 10mph etc etc with no mention of an apology. Both myself and my friend (also riding) were wearing correct hi viz, so no excuses!!!!
I've just fired off a letter of complaint to Royal Mail...not that it will change anything but it makes me feel better:o

Aw whatta shame .... yours must be the rotten apple in the barrow coz the postie around here is a real darling, always slows down and has a pleasant word if he sees horses.

I know there was a bus driver around here a while ago and someone complained coz he'd driven past her daughter's ponies and spooked one so that it went up the hedge, and the bus company really took it very seriously.

Um ...... can someone tell me - WHY do posties always wear shorts??? OK so in the summer its what you'd expect, but in the middle of winter when its minus 5?? :)

Daft isnt it! But i guess if you are doing a town round and on foot doing steps etc it gets bloomin hot, they average 13 miles on foot!!

Royal Mail will take it very seriously he may even lose his job, they are very very strict ont his kind of thing

i think its the younger posties that cause the prob, well at least it is where i am lol. After a particular bad day, i fell off my horse and hit the road, said horse ran home at break neck speed  the postie picked me up and follwed the horse back home. i couldn't have been more greatful would have been a very long walk

edited to add.. wasnt the posties fault i fell off, horse bolted and slipped on the road

You did the right thing to complain in writing. If you are not happy with the response, write again and request details on how you can take the matter further and how the management can show it is fulfilling it's duty of care to all other road users (the duty of care question scares public sector managers!!) If you are still not satisfied write to your MP and ask him to see if he can get a satisfactory response and to maybe get evidence that Posties are adequately trained with respect to equestrian road users.

Ride safe, FP;)

Make then realise how "liable" "they" will be and the "driver" if they cause an accident by dangerous driving, well done for sending them a letter.

I threatened a large building company over the phone regarding the huge lumps of mud in our road from there site, I said if my wife hits one driving the car and gets injured, I would sue the shitte out of them, 10 minutes later a guy with a barrow was picking them up ;)

hey their, i work for royal mail and i would hope that its a minority who do this. If i see horses i just crawl past them and have in the past got out my van and restrained a loose dog for 2 riders. All the posties at my office i am certain would do the same as they all love animals and 3 of us have our own horses. I would say to you find out the number of your local delivery office and give the date it happened they have records of who did which round each day and the person who was responsible will no doubt get in **** for this. Thats what would happen at my work anyway. x

Nixxyz - was actually an older guy that did this this morning!! Definitely a minority though - most of the posties around the yard are very good and slow down, stop, etc, one even gives out polos to any passing equines as he's delivering!
As I say our horses are generally brill in traffic....but if you get some prannock revving inches away from their bum I think I'd create a fuss too ;) if I'd had no hi viz on and it was a quick outburst from B I could understand, but he could clearly see us and clearly see she was panicked as he approached.
We shall see what the outcome is....! If they even just find who it is and give him a quick word of caution, I'd be happy as he wasn't for taking our advice!
