stupid school mum, impatiently drove into my horse!

Don't feel embaressed about your language, had some one threatened my life like that I would have dismounted and punched them through the open window.

LOL you are on my wave length.

I'm stunned!

Do report it to the police, and tell them that she refused to give her information following a reasonable request. Tell them that you wanted them in case your horse required ventinary attention.

Also write to the school. Ask them to send a note to the parents reminding them to be courteous to ALL types of road user near the school and also ask them if they could send a note to the yard if they are planning any events which are likely to cause it to be particularly busy around the school at unusual times of day so that you can avoid it.

Mine too....I actually laughed out loud at that

Phone the police. i'm sure that failing to exchange details after a collision is an offence. She shouoldn't be able to get away with this sort of behaviour without a stern warning. We used to live opposite a school and I soon learned that mums delivering and collecting their offspring were often on a mission and I doubt they would give way to an armoured tank, let alone a horse!

Yep me too and i am sat at work on my own.

I haven't read all of the suggestions but I would certainly contact the police and report it with the registration number and I would also definitely contact the school and politely tell them what had happened due to the irresponsible parking and ask them if perhaps they could let you know when they have another event so you can avoid the school at those times. Hope your horse is OK.

Its high time this school run nonsense was stopped and replaced by school buses.. its bad for congestion and an excuse for snotty bitches to show off how much a month they can afford to lease a chav style 4x4 or a yob mobile (BMW) anyway hope your horse is ok both physicly and mentaly

Sadly I would love to say I was shocked by the story or any other stories posted on here but it is now getting to the point where I am not shocked by the amount of idiots out there on the road

I have had several near misses whilst hacking out. Once I was hacking down a very long straight road a car was coming up behind me but the van behind them went to over take the car and me and only just missed me and a car coming in the opposite direction.
Another tried to over take me on a single track road whilst my horse was spooking, in the middle of the road cars in the opposite direction were being patient this car tried to get past, I was shouting for them to stop and they wouldn't horse was cms off being knocked straight off his back legs! Not to mention many others from impatient drivers
frown.gif

I dread hacking out now for just in case. I cannot believe the woman's excuse 'busy' pfft! I would love to know if she would have done the same if it were a child on a pony, a cyclist or someone walking a dog or a child and she had hit them

I do hope you go to the police about this. I agree with Boxers regarding informing the school. I have my fingers tightly crossed you boy isn't bruised, sore or any worse.

Go to the local police station and report the incident. Ask the desk seargent for an incident number and that way you know it has been entered in to their system and you can refer to it at a later date.

If anyone is involved in a motoring accident they must exchange name and address with anyone else involved in the accident. Failure to do so is an offence. This driver has therefore commited an offence if she has refused to provide you with her name and address.

I would aslo write to the headteacher of the school and explain what happened.

[/ QUOTE ]

Also please report it to the BHS as they collate lots of stats about accidents involving horses, they should also give you advice about your rights in this situation.

Glad to hear you are both OK - its absolutely terrifying when its happening - no wonder you lashed out with your language!

Take it easy

What a stupid cow. I expect she was running late for a coffee morning! Glad you are ok. I live in a road where there is a large school campus and mums and their darlings seem to have a total change in personality on the school run (yes, I have children and she walks to school).

Report it to the Police - if you have her car registration number they will trace her.

Do report it to the police, either in person or by phone today. Sis and I were involved in an incident with our 2 very sensible ride & drive horses and a stupid driver, who fortunately didn't hit either of the horses (more good luck than mangement). We reported his registration number & car details as soon as we got back home (before mobile phones). We had no further details, as although words were exchanged

:o we never got his name/address. The police came to our home and took statements from us. We later saw in the local paper that he had been found guilty of careless driving. I believe that BHS also ask people to let them know of RTA incidents.

Stupid people! This happened to me once but on a single country lane. I was no more than 3m from a layby but car decides to overtake anyway. Clips my friends horse who bolts forwards then mini rears, then continued and clipped my horse! Who then kicked and minorly dented the car who just drove off. Neither of our horses were injured thankfully. Glad horsie is ok!

Sad isn;t it - people have no patience. Every time you go out on the road it is a real risk

I've been wondering for some time about getting a helmet cam.

It's even worse when you're driving - they treat you like a slow vehicle and really cut you up!

You need to report this to the police - just in case the thing blows up - but if you lost it and shoutedswore then that will possibly become an issue - you know how it is. It's wrong - but she will use it to deflect attention

My god what a stupid cow!

I'd be on the phone to the police and reporting her for driving without due care and attention, even if nothing happens I would at least expect a visit from the boys in blue might mean she pays a bit more attention next time. Its still surely an offence to hit anything whether its a car or a horse!

Well done you though, you've got more restraint than me, I'd have probably beaten her to death with her own shoes!!

Poor you.... that must have really shaken you up... so so upsetting when that sort of thing happens
frown.gif

Don't blame you for going mad I would have!! Glad you're all ok... lucky for her you have a sweet horse or he could have kicked her car then how would she have liked it?
x

I can't believe it! What a stupid arse! I bet she was in a people carrier?! I have a thing about air headed school run mums who (attempt to) drive people carriers (and fail miserably because they are far too busy shouting at the children in the back seat!) I would report it, cos then it will be a warning to all the other mums at the school who "don't have time" to wait for a horse to go by.
I am lucky with our local police station, one of the liveries at our yard is a policewoman there, so I'd just tell her and the whole thing will be taken care of very well indeed!!
I once read about a rider who carried a long schooling whip with a brick on the end of it when she hacked down the road, no one ever drove too close to her again! Think I should try it, I'm fed up of nearly having my feet decapitated by wing mirrors! Any tips on how to stop this, like using the things cyclists put on their legs?

Oh hun I am so so angry on your behalf. I too would have vented in the same way!! Stupid woman, we are all always in a rush (thats life) but I bet she wouldn't have been so up her self if there had been a police car nearby. Shame there wasn't. If I were you I would just ring the police and report it anyway, just in case anything does appear on his hock, or in case she has done it before

Nonsense........... a reaction to being put in serious danger is NOT going to count against you.

What would you say to a mugger? Please don't be rude?

That's awful and pleased to hear you are both ok, it would seem this is happening more and more and you should report it to the police just in case it happens again, they like everthing logged, dated etc and if they get alot of complaints they have to look into it. I would have gone balistic had it been my boy so don't feel bad about a few choice words being said, but as others have said it may be a good idea to have a chat with the school also.

Please report it to the police and ask for a reference number. This woman has been involved in a motoring accident and left the scene refusing to give you her insurance details. That is illegal.

I'm afraid I dread women drivers far more than I do male ones. They see a gap and go for it, whether it stays the same size or not. Men are a bit more protective about their shiny tin boxes and use a bit more sense if they think there is a risk of a dent.

It is an offence to refuse to give your details in a collision, and it was a collision- please report her even if only to make her think twice next time she comes across another horse and rider, they may not be as lucky as you were.

Sorry - you missed my point, I obviously was not clear - this will be used by the driver as a diversion tactic to deflect attention away from themselves, this weakening the complainants position

Unfortunate, but often the way it happens.

OP do ensure that this is reported to the police. Please do it today. Regardless of what you may or may not have said to them - or your reaction, it should not weaken your complaint, as it is clearly valid.

So glad you are both ok.

I am so sorry this happened to you, it must have been horrid.

Do you have any people who have agreed to act as witnesses for you?

If the accident did not make a lot of noise, the people around may not have been aware of anything until they heard the clatter of hooves and you shouting.

The woman might just deny there was contact and say your horse just spooked. Then she could argue that there was no accident and so she did not need to give addresses etc.

I don't want to put you off reporting anything, just be aware that there is a limit the police can do if it comes down to your word against hers.

If you have witnesses, you are in a much stronger position. We reported someone for dangerous driving (nearly hit a pedestrian and a donkey on the road) and they ended up with 7 points on their licence and a big fine.
