.....but I was lucky and got away with it.
Actually, my horse is amazing, and I really need some sense knocked into me.
Was in the arena earlier, schooling very nicely. Jumps were up, so using them as 'props' to bend around, changing direction, transitions and such like.
Was so good, I thought I'd reward Meg with a jump or 3. One particular jump had those plastic blue barrells under, only they weren't under, they had blown about a stride away on landing side, due to not being 'poled' in place.
And, as I am a fat lazy watsit, I didn't feel the need to dismount to move them. So, I bent down and picked them up, which on a 15hander isn't impossible. Now, I urge others not to do the same, as clearly I need my head seeing to. I managed to hold onto the rim of the barrells, one at a time, and walk Meg, carrying the things out of harms way from the jump. I probably looked like I was trying to train the poor mare to be the next calvalry drum horse.
Meg was ace, and didn't flinch. I like to think we have such a good partnership that she understands and trusts me, but as we all know, horses are not machines. I wouldn't dream of doing it on anything other than my mare. Thinking about it, I doubt i'd do it again.
We went on to jump all the jumps with such enthusiasm, that I honestly couldn't ride for the huge cheshire cat grin I had, and was merely a passenger. We jumped several combinations of upto about 3'3'', making it feel like a mini x pole. I am truely blessed.
I have to post this thread in my pure big headedness, that I own a remarkable mare, and I love her to pieces.
