Hi all,

Competing SJ on sunday, although not sure quite what to do with my hair? For dressage & showing I put it into a posh plaited hairnet bun thingy but not sure for SJ? Its very long (down to my waist) and thick so ponytail a no no. Plait maybe??

What would you do??

Thanks :D

Plait it, wind it up into a bun, hold in place with hair elastic, one net over the resultant bun, net over that and the rest of your head. Neat and safe. :)

Coil it up neatly, stick it in a hairnet, under your HS1, velvet hat silk etc, wearing your tweed jacket, stock, and make sure you stick your 5 point breast plate on, and dont forget to plait ....... ooops, wrong discipline. Agree with comment above, nobody cares, its showjumping.

Personally, though, my daughter has long hair and she coils it up, puts a hairnet over it and adds a dark brown scrunchie (matching hair) over it. Thats even when she showjumps.

Plait it then into a bun.
Oh wait, you said sj. In that case get extensions, dye an unlikely shade of blonde, & use straightening irons, then leave loose.

No offence intended, mines long & naturally blond too. Except if it manages to escape a bun it looks like someone with amphetamine addiction has attacked me with curling tongues. I did say unlikely shade of blonde!

Then gather the whole lot into a band in the nape of the neck. Looks a bit like a bun but there's no bulk to get in the way of your hat. A bit 1940s film star-ish but the none of the rest of the outfit exactly screams a la mode fashion.

Incidentally, an old fashioned "dolly" clothes peg (not the spring type) is a good aid to rolling the hair neatly to put it into the net (hint courtesy of my grandmother).

Spin pins are great for long hair that needs to go in a bun. They're the only thing that have worked for me when I want to put my hair up!

(You can get copies from the pound shops now, too. :) )
