Is this where you can unhook the stirrup from the top and then the stirrup drops down much lower?

If so I've used one to get on a 17.2h hunter (being 5ft 5 lol!) and found it really easy to use! No way I would have been able to get on one without it

So you don't get tangled up with it...want to get one,as cr*p getting on from the floor, but did not want to buy one and find it no good and add it to the already large collection of horse items that I have brought and found no good...Thankies!

The only problem with the removable type is getting it off and stowed away when mounted if the beastie is restless.

No my cob just stands there, but yes if you had a fidget of horse, then I could see it being difficult to use!

Probably sounds stupid as I've never seen one.

But is it something small enough to fit in your pocket so that you could carry it in case you had to get off (or got thrown off

)while hacking?

Yep it can be put in your pocket and threads through the sturrip....it's the threading through the sturrip and then once your on...how easy is it to take off the iron!

I had one, I sort of looped it through the stirrup and it hung down below but I just had to cock my other leg so much higher to clear horsey's bum it was not worth the effort so I went back to using walls!

Emma123 I had oone of those but it went with the horse when we sold him, well he was 17.3! Was just wondering where can you get them from as have been looking for ages!
Was about to do a post looking for them!

Thats exactly why I prefer steps, gates, fences, almost anything really ! If i lowered the stirrup down far enough for me to get my foot in from the ground, or if I used one of these things, I'd never be able to get my other leg over her back.

I found the same as purpledobbin - being a complete shortass, when I used a stirrup mount thing I couldn't get my leg over the horse's bum to get on!

Not very dignified, I can tell you!

It was used just the once, and I think it's still lurking in the bottom of a dusty box somewhere!

I made one out of two bits of batten and some left-over rope because I am too mean to buy one. It was OK but I have got a shorter pony now so don't really need it. Can't remember what happened to it now I come to think of it...
