Not sure about everyone else, but we have some -6 temperatures expected this week! ?

My mares fluffy and a good weight. Been out naked for the last month..

Will you leave your fluffy horses naked or pop a rug on for those temps?

It’s going to be getting colder this week, yes. But unless you’re in Scotland I’m not sure we’re going to be dropping to -7.

Fluffy but Chaser clipped & will remain rugless.
He's warm as toast & rain runs off the top.

30yr old unclipped Arab is out in the daylight hours down here in SE England. He's now wearing a medium Wug and is toasty warm. Eagle-eyed, very experienced YO has his other relatives and knows him and them backwards. He has a large wardrobe, so she can add/subtract as she thinks best.

Felix is unrugged at the moment. Amber and Lottie are rugged. Lottie because she is clipped and Amber because she needs to gain a bit of weight. I worry about Felix but he never even uses his shelter so I think he is fine. -8 and lots of snow forecast here for later in the week. Should I rug him then?

I take this back.

Some amateur forecasters are giving absolute bonkers temperatures for England and Wales, with the possibility of significant snow from Friday (possibly Thursday) onwards.

Babies will stay unrugged regardless. Old lady has a rug cos her ridiculously thick coat never dries out if it rains. Ones in work are rugged because I do not have an hour per horse to clean them every time I want to ride!!! All rugs are LW rain sheets only.

We have 5 and only the elderly loan pony (27) will be rugged. He’s currently in a 50g overnight and I will up it to 100g for the minus temps - he has quite a good coat but is stiff and I don’t want him to lose any weight.

My ISH (mostly warmblood/TB) and our Appaloosa, Welsh X and miniature are always unrugged these days, regardless of the weather, but they have free access to stables as shelter and live out 24/7 with plenty of forage (and no clips). Actually the mini has limited forage but can do with shifting weight and is extremely fluffy.

My fluffy thing has a less neat (because I did it!) version of Dave's clip. He shall be staying naked as plenty of hay & hedges for shelter.

I'm trying to ignore all of this as I'm supposed to be moving my two next week and they're going quite high up in the Pennines - we do not want snow!

I may regret posting this but some snow at end of week would mean I can FINALLY play with my sledge properly & realise my dream of going dashing thru the snow (bells & all!)... In reality I'll probably be tipped off the first time we go around a corner ?

There isn’t anything quite like that buzz from sledging! ?
