Some of you may have read a few posts I put on a few week ago about a castration that had gone wrong with my colt (Only one testicle was removed, given jabs I didnt ask for/didnt need, only one vet arrived when I was told two were coming...the list goes on).

After weeks of emailing back and forth with no luck I finally made an official complaint to the practise owner. They have finally admitted that they are at fault and have very kindly agreed to either come back and finish the op for free or completely waive the charge and let me go somewhere else sort the problem.

So happy with this outcome and I think the practise owner has been very understanding and proffessional in dealing with this. I think it is very worth persuing things with surgerys if you do not feel you are being fairly treated, as this case goes to show.

I would be interested to know if anyone else had dealings with surgerys where they feel they have been unfairly treated and what was the outcome?

But was the original charge not 3or 4 times the cost a normal castration? If you go elsewhere you'll have to pay or if they finish it up do you still have to pay ye original invoice?! Practice are not actually ending up out of pocket no matter which option you take? I'd be wanting invoice waived then go elsewhere.

I have decided to go elsewhere for to complete the castration as I just do not think I could cope with the stress if I had another problem with the same practise. They have very kindly completely wiped all of my fees off their system and I now owe them nothing. I am hoping to return to them in the future, as they have always been very good up until this incident, but like I said, i just couldnt take it if another problem arose with them.

The little man is fine, dont think he even noticed the first op tbh and is none the wiser and probably very happy he currently has one remaining testicle...not for long though!!! ;)

Very glad you have a positive outcome, although rather sad that you had to make an official complaint to get it resolved.

I remember this and in your shoes I would have been livid.
Glad your horse is OK now.

I'm very happy to read that you plugged away at this. You were unquestionably in the right and the vet who performed the less-than-acceptable castration, was not. Great result and well done for persevering!

That result is a good one. Many years ago a pony I was having produced showed a very slight lameness that we wanted investigated. My own vet attended and the mare was referred to the vet college. I was insured with E&L at the time (many many years ago). When the claim went in the vet referred to the mare as having had a previous lameness, which was completely untrue. The mare had never had any veterinary attention apart from the usual vaccinations. It was sufficient for the insurance company to reject the claim. The vet concerned tried every excuse under the sun as to why he had made the statement, his favourite being he had confused the mare with another at the producers. I had to take the hit and promptly changed my vet.
