The Flexible Filly muzzle has knackered Archie's teeth (major guilt feelings about that!) and I won't be able to muzzle going forward. So, knowing how much grass we have in a normal year at the farm, I've been very strict all winter with Archie's hay.

I had him on the weighbridge last week and he's lost over 50kg. He's still tubby, don't get me wrong, and has lost muscle from not being ridden, but I am over the moon! Not just the weight loss, but for the first time in years he will be on just one tube of wormer...🙃

Thank you! It's been horrible not to feed giant haynets over winter. Every time I had a pang I had to remember there are only 4 horses on 8 acres. That's so funny to think he's lost a whole you @Rumtytum!

Though I know they aren't at all accurate, it just shows a weigh tape is no use at all - mine's telling me he weighs 589kg, which in any other year translates to around 720kg on the weighbridge, but this year he is now 674kg.

@IKW I do think they are a lot better than Greenguards, but Archie's got challenging dentition in that he is missing a tooth, and his top teeth have moved. The hole in the Flexible Filly muzzle lines up with the gap and I think he has been using the bottom tooth to scrape when muzzled, but teeth either side are also damaged.

Just to show you what I mean, the photo on the left was taken in February 2023. No damage to teeth.

I started muzzling with the Flexible Filly in Summer 2024 and used it a lot last year so that he could be out and moving more. The photo on the right was taken at his dentist visit in December 2025.

I feel a huge amount of guilt about this - I thought they were safe.

I'm another that has "teeth guilt" from a flexible filly muzzle - you can see in my proflle photo where her front teeth have worn down. Though the general feedback on the FF is that they are kinder to teeth than the greenguards, for most equines. Just not all of them...!

My vet did both ponies' teeth last week and reiterated that worn teeth (to this fairly minor extent) are preferable to laminitis.

I have tried to move away from FF recently - I tried the Le Mieux one but took it off after 10 minutes as it just seemed too heavy for her, and today received the Tough Love magnet one. I have high hopes for that one, but we'll see.

I daren't let mine loose on the grass at the moment. She doesn't need to lose weight, but her EMS and the sugar levels are a constant worry.

Archie looks fab ❤️

I’d be very interested in feed back on the tough love magnetic muzzle please, FF is due for replacement……
