I bet nobody has had such a frustrating day as us today....

Flo's second intro of the season at Rademon. She was 3rd on her last run.

Dressage went well, though she was noticeably more tense than she has been for a good while..Not sure whether this is due to being a new venue for her, or the fact that she has been on a different calmer for the past fortnight.

ANt while I'm talking 'stressage', I can't really get my head round intro 92. The trot-walk-trot transitions are in a corner (rather than at C or somewhere sensible) so harder to maintain rhythm, and you WALK up the centre line for final halt at X. Any horse in the world who'se ever done a dresage test before knows to trot up the centre line, I didn't see one competitor who managed to get from K round to A and up the c line to X without at least a couple of strides of jog..

Anyway, she managed a decent score of 37 (which was about 5th).

I was a little worried about the SJ, because although they went XC schooling last weekend, they haven't SJed since last event 4 weeks ago, and she's a bit of a 'dangly' TB sort.

However they went in and jumped a lovely clear..

The XC was pretty much the same as the PN with very few changes. A lot of the course is wooded and twisty but the going is good on the tracks.

They set out great guns over fences 1-3 which I could see

fence 3 (bizarrely this caused a few probs with baby horses as beside warmup but FLo whizzed over)

and they disappeared off into the trees. Then the commentary went silent, and I didn't know what was going on, so I was frantic as a couple of horses who had been behind OH appeared in the finishing field. Nearly started to head back to the lorry park, as thought he had been elim, or had lost a shoe and had to pull up.

However EVENTUALLY who appears but OH and Flo, down the slide, into the river and over this brush (she jumped VERY big as not used to jumping from trot)

Once I caught up with them I got the whole story...

Seemingly she had a stop at fence 4 (step up, but the bank falls away v steeply on the other side), but round again and sailed over, straight through the river going out, more steps, barrels, log into space etc and came to where the PN had to jump a big open ditch. Someone decided in their wisdom this was too big for intro, so flags crossed on it, and they had to turn to the side, slide down slope into small stream, up opposite bank and jump a log a couple of strides later. The stream was a hazard, and the log was the actual fence.

Gues what - she planted at the little stream. OH said she didn't seem to have a clue what to do with her feet, and as it was too big to jump in one, she just refused to move. As it was a hazard rather than a fence, she wasn't 'refusing' as such, and fortunately after he had stood aside to let next couple of horses through, she seemed to suddenly sort it out, slid down the slope through the stream and on, and jumped the rest of the course absolutely fine.

The most totally frustrating thing about the day is, the course actually caused quite a bit of trouble, and even with the one stop and a few time - he still would have been placed (but of course madam decided to have a game of 'statues' in the woods

!

I think I need a BIG glass of wine, and lots of sympathy.

Anyone????

Fiona

sending you a MASSIVE glass of wine, but at least the SJ and dressage were good, and the XC sounds like it was a nightmare, so at least everyone is in one piece

Wine and more wine being sent

Thank you pet - if I snorkel down enough wine tonight, I'm sure it'll seem less annoying in the morning.

I can worry about a sore head instead

!

Home in one piece is the main thing you are right. A friend in the PN pulled up with blood running out of her horses hoof (he pulled a shoe, and a huge lump of hoof as well). Hoping the vet managed to sort them out.

I've had a similar day - last year. Sooo frustrating. Lying in top 5 after SJ, clear until fence 9, then had to cross a stream which my horse refused point blank to entertain. It's sooo frustrating, so I feel totally for you both

The rest sounds good though

Really - spooky or what.

The retarded animal had already waded through a river for goodness sake, but couldn't possibly slide down a non -manicured bank into a 2" stream.

We hunted her all last winter so she didn't have an excuse for 'mum - what do I do with my feet' moments.

Aaaagh

I love the way your OH always looks so full of determination and enthusiasm, so it must have been really frustrating to have time faults at the stream.
great pics though, and yes, it looks as if you got the best of the weather today.

How annoying for you! I feel your pain - Catembi once refused to go anywhere near a ditch...only it wasn't really a ditch as it hadn't been dug out - it was more of a grassy depression...and it was about 6 inches deep & a foot at most across...& he was jumping up to 1 m 15 bsja at the time...

Grrrr...horses!

Great photos - they look really good together!

Oh I love Rademon...

Luckily we have a driving event (Combined Driving) there in a few weeks!!

I think I got stuck fence judging at that stream/fence last year or the year before... pity it caused her problems... She's a lovely looking mare by the way!!

oh dear, I know the stream and it is VERY spooky (not got the balls to jump the ditch yet either :P) so very bad luck
frown.gif
but sounds like the rest of the day went well! (and you weren't hopping across the field as I saw one of the injured people doing at one point!!)

If I had read this last night would have offered wine, but this morning its tea

Love her colour and bless her for not making out the stream, the last photo is a great action shot. I hate it when people go out of eye shot and there is no commentary its horrid waiting
Great report

She is looking super isn't she, & barring a small glitch would have been placed at both her outings aff. which is pretty impressive. Remember that little horse who you worried about being too downhill.. Nice dressage now eh.

I fell off at a natural hazard years ago at an event they used to run at Shelswell Park. Horse galloped round the field a few laps, was returned to me got on & finished clear, but with a gazillion time pens to move from top 5 to about last...

Shame about her adversion to the stream! It always causes a few big problems. Unfortunately the pre-novice ditch is tto big for intro as it is a much easier fence to get to!

We saw him over the carts after that and he seemed to be going great guns!

You taking her to Kircubbin now?!

How annoying about her little hissy fit in the woods. It is quite spooky in there. Got some photos at the water, will PM you them

what kind of irish hunter does she think she is?!

[/ QUOTE ]

A part time one obviously.

OH 'might' get to do a bit of whipping in for the hunt this winter, so will personally make sure she goes through every 'shuch' (irish word for dirty ditch) in Ireland

Thanks siennamum, thats her - the 'downhill' dressage horse. Thankfully at 8yo, she finally seems to be able to carry herself a bit better.

At least he didn't fall off though, thats a plus.

Fiona

Why did I think you weren't going to be there?? My brain must be failing. Was Donna there. If so I will email her for pics.

Thats the worst bit of Rademon after three weeks at Tyrella. Spectators can only see a couple of fences at a time.

The ditch itself jumps really well though (prob as it has a huge ground pole which half hides the actual ditch) and I think she has already jumped it out hunting over the winter.

Fiona

No - bummer!!

OH is chief scorer so can't ride.

We are taking S to do the open class at the East Antrim PC ODE on the bank holiday monday, and then Flo to Ravensdale the following weekend.

How's Sky's poorly leg??
