Is it me or is there a very unusual upsurge in new posters, and more to the point, new posters with very convoluted and provocative problems? And am I very cynical in that if I read a title of a new thread, and it sounds even slightly controversial, my initial suspicions are confirmed when lo and behold it is posted by a new 'November Registration' forum member?:P

Now I am absolutely certain that some people do lurk for quite sometime and then post for the first time when they need advice when they have an issue. Fair enough.

But to join and then suddenly and immediately, to all intents and purposes, present all and sundry with a complex and controversial story, that is often long and twisting, and manages to take on board all and any issue that might cause a bit of stropping about and door slamming by a lot of forum members?

Are we being treated to a bit of light entertainment for the long and boring winter months do you think, or is it all pure coincidence? :)

MrsJingle, I had noticed this trend too! Wonder if it's the same person behind it or whether there's a whole gang of them.

Yes I did wonder that too. They are extremely inventive if it is only one, but doing and equally good job between them if it is several of them. :D Bring it on I say, I hate the short days and long nights. :D

I am a November newbie, the clocks have gone back, I can't go anywhere/am avoiding current masters module like the plague/am sick of the glazed over look when I talk at my family re the horses - nothing sinister, I just thought that the point of this forum was for it to be a place to "chat" or ask for/give advice to like minded people! To be fair I have read a lot of threads and it seems to be a right old bun fight on here at times, I have been quite amazed at how rude/inflammatory/stuck up their own a*** people can be when hiding behind the computer screen but I suppose it goes with the territory - that said - luckily - so far I have only had what can only be described as perfectly pleasant chats on here, so happy days!

This makes me nervous :-0 hope its not me :-( I've only been on here since September and try and post only sensible things when I require advice from the wider horse community but I certainly get put off reading some of the threads which can be controversial !! So I try and keep neutral when answering any threads I am interested in or where I can offer helpful advice if that's what the OP is asking for.

I'd noticed lots of new members too. However I was thinking of starting a thread to welcome them and say who they are.
It's all been getting a bit dull so new members will hopefully liven things up.

Waves to new posters ..yoooohooo

I dont post much but did join a long time ago, I remember one of my first posts was asking if anyone could recommend any good sports pony breeders as I was looking at the time and some lovely friendly member immediately started a thread whining about new members asking for recommendations, soooo welcoming not !!!

People join for different reasons, some are just trouble makers, but thats forums for you :-)

Waving back :-) thanks for the welcome

I'm on box rest with a broken foot so I need entertaining. Three weeks in and I am bored to death. I love the more 'entertaining' posts!

New posters can only be a good thing, otherwise we will all end up like the oojimaflip bird (not sure how to spell it).
Hello all!

Don't mind entertaining, but three posts my same poster on same topic is rather boring!

But haven't had a good troll in a while! Think the last "good" one was the awful story about rescuing the foal :(
Still good entertainment!

Hi everyone,
I've been trying to join for several months, but have limited time to spend on the computer and often dodgy internet, so it's taken a long time to get here.
However, having seen some of the recent posts, including this one, I now feel unsure if it is a forum I want to be on.
Why is it that forums/Facebook etc is becoming somewhere where it is increasing common to be rude to people? Is it because we all have such hectic lives and take our frustrations out on others, maybe making ourselves feel better by putting others down?
Hopefully I won't get lynched for my post, but there is enough heart ache and saddness I the world, maybe we could all try and be a little nicer to each other :)

I have noticed a few newbies that seem to be 'recommending' miracle cures/supplements..........maybe being cynical but stinks of advertising to me!

To all the genuine newbies, welcome! This forum can be a mine of useful info and advice, but you may need to be tough skinned on occasions!

More the merrier but I have to report many for spam. I mean fake driving licence's COME ON

The OP was specifically alluding to some very long and complicated initial posts put up by brand new forum members, which have had me thinking 'hmmm' as well. But even if these are put up just to get a good discussion going, there's no harm in it, and it can get quite entertaining.

I'm a relative newbie too, and I lurked for months before I actually signed up and dared to post anything! I have learnt so much on here, especially about the effect of feeding on hoof health, and am continuing to learn more.

Let's celebrate the new forum members, and I'm sure that the OP will join me in that!

This forum does have it's reputation although for the most part it is undeserved. People here are straight forward and a lot of the older posters know what they are on about and don't suffer fools gladly but in saying that all they want is for riders and horses to be safe and well. The frustration and subsequent "bun fights" tend to happen when perfectly logical and sound advice is given and not taken on board or met with rudeness.
HHO is not for everyone but if you can take the good and ignore the bad, be reasonable and sensible then you will find it a great source of information and friendship :)

I saw the one not long ago advertising fake passports! With a phone number to call to order, I was totally shocked!

I`m relatively new i suppose, i only comment if i feel i have something useful to add .... i`m not a troll, but then i am known by enough folk on here 'in real life' who can vouch for me. Some posts do only seem to be put on to provoke a reaction, which is sad but we can only hope we can split the wheat from the chaff and help those who genuinely need it, and not those who are making it up.

Edited to add, i just looked and realised i joined in 2010 LOL ... ok so not that new, but i`ve only started posting more quite recently :D

Thank you Tiddlypom, somebody who managed to read and take my thread in the spirit it was intended. Of course all newcomers are welcome, and if amongst them there might be the odd troll, well so what? Lets not take this all too seriously, my post was only intended as a light hearted comment on some recent threads, not a witch hunt against newbies. ;)

Cobadoodledoo, Battytwoll, Alchemy, Parkerpops, southerncomfort, Pick-a-Lilly and Tiddlypom too (if you still feel like a newbie).

As The wife said on the Donations on Facebook to buy a girl a horse...-thread, "we all have to start off as new posters once." I also recall another thread, where someone basically said, that if unnamed person X is described as doing something wrong in a post, it is usually not the person referred to, who replies on the thread worrying about being X.

Personally, I have in general nothing against newbies. If they behave normally, I probably won't even notice when they registered on HHO, their post count or such things, without I will simply reply about the topic that is spoken about. But if a newbie's post/replies is written in such a way, so that I interpret them as that they're only posting to cause trouble, it seems a little too unbelievable to be true, what they're actually is trying to say is unclear etc., then I have probably sometimes posted a reply sighing over that they're a HHO newbie. So please note, such a reply from me isn't based solely on the fact that they're a newbie, without it is the combination between their post/replies and that they're newly registered.

Basically, I think my last sentence, corresponds quite well to how I read MrsJingle's post, that it is the combination between what/how some write and that they're HHO newbies, which sometimes makes her sceptical/cynical. Her post didn't made me think that she tarred all HHO newbies with the same brush, nor that she expressed her opinion in a rude manner.

I rarely post on here, but have been on here for some time. Have asked/posted threads and got some good advise too.

I do like a good entertaining thread to read but never really get involved and post.. Not sure why as I do have an opinion! I tend to post if I'm having issues.. Me and my horse are doing well now after our many isn't backs and sometimes think maybe I should post a update on our success but don't think anyone would remember us and would feel silly!

I'm enjoying it

Some of the recent posts are like little challenges, like those maths questions that start...'if a train is travelling at 40mph then stops at a station and 4 people get off..............'

I am I former member returning. Having forgotten both my sign in name and password I have had to re register.
I thought the forum welcomed new members :-)

you know even since my first post i have felt at home here... and touch wood i have not earned anyones ire yet :)

although can I be called new if I have passed the gangly foal stage and now proceed to bulk out into the yearling stange :D
