My mare has never kicked or even threatened to kick another horse in the year I've known her. Then 2 weeks ago my sharer said she kicked out at another horse on a hack, then she reported the same incident a week later. Today, I had her out for a hack and she kicked the horse behind. She's done this hacking route with other horses a million times and has never kicked before the last 3 weeks.
Any ideas why she's suddenly become a kicker?? Could it be that she is just in season (although she isn't presenting)? Or could it just be a bad habit that's developed, horses being horses and all that?
Now her hacking buddy who always plodded happily beside her won't go near her since he's seen her kick 3 times at others. She's getting a bad reputation now, and I just can't understand where this beahviour has suddenly appeared from.
