We have an 18 year old miniature shetland gelding who we have owned since he was 6 months old. He has lived with his current 'partner's mate for over a year sharing a box with absolutely no problems or aggression.

Suddenly this morning he cornered and attacked the mare kicking and biting until she was saved and moved to another box. This was completely out of character and we are worried about putting them back together.

He seems fine in himself, had his teeth done, was microchipped and vaccinated last friday with bill effects. We cant understand why he has behaved like this

Any ideas?

Has anything in his management changed at all?

Oh, yes just realised he was chipped and vaccinated last week. I would say that he is feeling under the weather, she may even have nibbled him on the chip site and hurt him, so he retaliated.
