Probably should be in vets but more traffic here.
Mare started quiding with her haylage this evening, made sense of this mornings box -nets were pretty full this am(usually empty)pile of hay on floor hardly any water touched.Got vet out as didn't want mare to go 2 nights like that as worried about upsetting gut if no food etc.
Mare does not quid with hard feed -not a drop.
Vet did teeth but said they actually weren't that sharp and ok
Droppings a bit loose and fewer than usual.no temp, heart ok
Mare has had no signs of even slight quiding with food/hay.I know teeth probs can cause this but so suddenly??-it was big chunks of partly chewed hay
Any ideas if it could be something else??

its not just shapness that can cause it,soreness in the mouth or out of balance and etr or even a loose tooth any number of things did your vet have a good feel in the mouth to see if there was anything more than sharp edges ?

I'd get a EDT out too. I used to use the vet to rasp teeth at one time, but now only use an EDT. EDT's do a much more thorough job as that's what they are qualified for. Nothing against vets but they haven't had the training and experience with teeth that EDT's have.

Yea usually use one.
We tend not to have a local EDT wait until theres a few then he comes. Will call round other yards tho to see if anyone due.

she appearred to tho do.
Think vets first job (has just finished 6months probation)not saying that not a good vet, just wary of not long qualified vets due to past experiences.
Could well be soreness of somesort as started eating hay not long after BUT most likely effects of sedation not worn off.

Mine got like this over New Year and it was caused by a nasty virus causing his throat to swell. Vet came out and scoped, said his soft palate was covered with ulcers so he couldn't swallow (couldn't swallow even saliva). She left me with ABs and bute for it. Took him a few days to get over it but he's ok now. No idea what it was but bloods didn't come back with anything so "just" a bug.

Maybe worth getting your vet out to check for something similar? Are her glands up?

My vet was a bit like that on the first day. Gave pony bute and said see how he gets on. By the second day he really couldn't manage anything at all so vet came out again to scope him.

Hope your boy is ok

If it's the same sort of thing as my boy, it was easily treated with ABs, bute and a few days box rest.
