Sudocrem/Atopica

I think Atopica is wonderful, takes a bit to get working, once it startrs though you'll wonder how you ever managed without it. Not too bad side effects wise, but a big pill tos swallow!

Pill size shouldn't be an issue, he is a bit of a numpty, swallows those big pink Noroclav antibiotics like they are sweeties, the weirdo!!!
Thanks for not giving me a hard time :o :o :o I do feel like a complete twonk for not being able to manage this for the best :(

My old dog was prone to hot spots and I found that what helped the most was washing the area with tea tree oil to dry it and then applying Eurax cream. He stopped itching almost straight away and used to come to get it on himself when they were bad (he normally freaked out at anything done to him, even when applying flea drops!)

My vet also gave fuciderm cream, but I was also told that cheap hydrocortisone cream from the chemist does the same job.

The vet said he has never seen a shorthaired GSD with so much/such a dense coat as you say, it does not help. I also have Fuciderm in my armory!!!
He was bathed again with Malaseb and Paxcutol yesterday and took a lot of hair out today with the Furminator.
Dunno about leaving anything on him unattended?

I found Malaseb made my boy dryer and itchier.
I got recommended another (name escapes me) from the vet that doesnt dry out as much but still use my Ruggles shampoo and it doesnt dry it the same.
I know you are trying to dry up the skin so pointless post :o

CC sorry I haven't read all the thread.
Our girl started on Atopica when she was about 3 and was on it all the way to 11.
It was trial and error for a while but god, she improved SO much after a few months and we couldn't believe the difference.
It works by blocking the immune system response to allergens basically and Tara ended up on a dose low enough for a cocker spaniel in the end! ;) the most common side effects were tummy upsets - Tara would have a few 'off days' every few weeks, but aside from that nothing.
We used to clip her too wherever she was itchy, that seemed to help with some Malaseb spray.
She absolutely broke our hearts too, we were so close to losing her at one point and she was so miserable. Now I look back I can't believe how well she was.
PM me if you want any more info. Good luck with him, I really sympathise, know what you're going through!
K x

If you can, although I would recommend buying a pair of cheap Clippers and take hair, skin, you will be surprised how much sooner dry, and even without cream, I use my shepherd malaseb fire fire hot bath scrub.
