I've been using sudocrem morning and night on my boy's sheath, and it's working to a degree to deter the flies.

However, in this heat it means that his hind legs and tail are becoming filthy and greasy as the cream melts and spreads around. Is this just something to put up with or should I try something different?

All suggestions welcome. TIA

Ah thank you. I hadn't realised deosect would be ok for sensitive areas as it's so strong. At the moment I'm washing his legs every day to get rid of the thick layer of grease/dirt!

i'd do a test patch first with the deosect. Mine's hugely allergic. TBF he is a bit if a fairy when it comes to his skin. I cant use the yellow summer fly cream either as that upsets him too, tho nowhere near as bad as the deosect!

Many thanks for the advice everyone - I very much appreciate you taking the time to reply.

I did find a few maggots last year which was hideous, hence I am so keen to protect him better. Although I like the sound of deosect for the cleanliness aspect (for me!), I think yellow cream may well be the way to go for his sake, and just do the best I can at keeping the resulting greasiness at bay.

Yellow fly strike cream is by far the best product for sheath protection. Maggots in the sheath are dreadful.

Second this. You need to wear gloves to apply but it doesnt stay sticky the way Sudocrem does, it just dries and crimbles off eventually. My boy had maggots last year too so I’m extra careful.

That is music to my ears :)

Off to Amazon I go.......thank you!!
