Sue Carson Saddles - thoughts/views/opinions?

Went to the PC Championships today, just for a mooch about (bought a jacket and met another HHO-er :D).

Whilst there, I wandered onto the Sue Carson stand.

Oh. I think I might be in love!

They had a saddle stand, and I sat on a couple of jumping saddles... So comfy!! I know they'll feel different on a horse, but yummmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyy :cool::D:D

Very tempted to have a fitting session when I can get back on the Dizz.

Any thoughts?

ETA: What saddles would you suggest? Dizz is a Barnsby shape, they all seem to sit well on her. I have an Albion K2, but find it very uncomfortable for me, plus it doesn't fit the Dizz (it was bought for my last horse).
 
Mum had one for her last horse and I didn't love the fit either :o

He has a fair bit of muscle atrophy over his wither and it really didn't do anything to help it- I also didn't find it particularly comfortable :confused: :)
 
Will PM you ;) A nice barnsby saddle would be good if they fit her! I love them, beatifully made and good customer service... something lacking with some other companies ;) :p Just don't fit my mare :( :(

Do you like big blocks? Small blocks? Shallow seat? Deep seat?! Preference to whether wool flocked? :D
 
Ground round here has been rock hard for ages now. We've had torrential rain for the last two or three days. Studs were going in. Didn't see any slips in the showjumping, seemed steady enough.

I want something that I don't have to think "Knees in!" as I'm coming into a jump as they're already there.

Would like a specific jump saddle, I'll get a GP saddle for hacking, etc. afterwards; still want it to be comfy though - I want to feel like I'm sat into something rather than sat on top of it.

I'm willing to spend a fair bit on it, just want it to be right for both me and the Dizz.

I need an 18" as I have long legs (long thigh).
 
Well my husband has two, a dressage and jumping saddle and he likes both.He went down the Bates/Amerigo/various other makes, sold them all several times until he settled with those, saying he feels secure and they fit his horses.
My daughter uses one for dressage too.
My only critiscism is the need for adjusting the air at least once a year, at from £50 to £75 a time it gets annoying.
I would go for whatever you feel utterly comfortable in and fits your horse, whoever makes it.

It's interesting as the responses are so split into two sides.

I admit I prefer the concept of flocking to cair, and as Dizz is easily upset by a saddle not being right, I am tempted to stick with a flocked one, whichever one we end up with.

Will look some more. Maybe ask saddler to bring out a few more to try, now we know what fits the Dizz best.

No C, I have heard of them, but not taken much notice. I'll go and Google :)

I'm hoping that her shape changing will start to slow down now. It was anticipated that she would mature build and height wise (and possibly brain wise!) between six and seven, and she is now six. This is the first time my saddler has said it's okay for me to consider a new saddle - obviously I could have done before, but as saddler pointed out, there would have been a very good chance that it would not fit her x weeks later!
 
The biggest problems I've heard of with Sue Carson saddles is a) the aftercare service *can* leave a bit to be desired, and b) no other saddler with touch them as part exchange.

People are coming back to me saying stick with the Barnsby if that is Dizz's shape, so it looks like a Barnsby it will be.

Havent heard any good reports of SC saddles either Mrs M.

Have got a few Barnsby saddles in the tack room, including the Xtreeme jumping and xc, when you are up to it come and have a sit on them on one of my lads to see what you think. Have also got a Barnsby GP which is more like a jumping saddle its really comfortable and stable to ride in and I hate GP saddles:D
 
The SC ones ive seen have had a very narrow gullet, which i dont like as there is potential for sitting on the spine. I have also heard a few times that the air bags dont fit brilliantly in the panel, a major manufacturing flaw.

Have you thought about a wow? They are super adjustable and you can have an 18" seat on a 17" panel if dizzy cant take the bigger panel but you need a bigger seat. This is the only saddle that does this i think. barnsby saddles are lovely too
 
Have you looked at the Barrie Swain holistic semiflex? I believe they can be adjusted as Dizz changes shape.

Given that she is happy in the Barnsby, so long as I can get one that I am happy sitting on/in (and feel safe and secure), then I'll stick with it. If I can't find one suited to me, I'll go look at the others, thank you :D
 
I have ridden on Sue Carson Saddles for along time and really love mine. The after care has always been very good. I do get my saddles checked every 12 months to ensure my horse is comfortable. It is the only saddle I know of which can be so easily adjusted as my horse changes shape:)
 
Perhaps a triumph of marketing over craftsmanship and knowledge. Mine was fitted to my horse by the person of the company name. Pinched so badly it made my horse stop jumping. Wouldn't touch with a barge pole.
 
I have two Sue Carson saddles and I have been very pleased with them. Before I had the flair system I was constantly told my horse was tight in the back and short in the neck. Once I had the Sue Carson saddle fitted properly, my advanced horse relaxed his back and opened up his neck. Both my horses are very happy in the saddle and I wouldn't change them for the world at present.
 
I have 3 Sue Carson Saddles on 3 different horses and love them all! I have one on an FEI dressage pony and both he and my daughter love it. I have a jump saddle on an event pony and she goes brilliantly in it and my daughter is so secure in it - saving up for a dressage saddle too! My horse has a dressage saddle and i love it!
