Hi all, please can you help me decided what to have on my new saddle I ordered today, its got to me made to measure as my boy is big, but I've said suede on seat and knees as never had suede but now im thinking leather, brain overload :O thanks

I'd go for leather. Suedes 2 much hard work. Not nice when gets wet & when it gets 'broken in' I always think it just looks worn & takes a lot of looking after.
If u don't want plain leather go for something like schrump (sp?) on seat & knees. Helps u stick bit more 2 saddle & looks really smart

I agree, suede doesn't wear well and it'll be a pain to clean and keep looking good. Personally, I don't like it at all.

It depends, pros and cons for both. Suede has ultimate grip, and on seat and knee/rear pads it is a very traditional look for showing classes. We use it on our pony showing saddles as they are pretty flat and minimal and we want to give children and smaller riders something to assist them! BUT suede does flatten over time and it absorbs rain like a sponge. And an even bigger BUT, both are avoidable or sortable - there are plenty of ways of bringing suede back to its former glory, and a good rain cover stops the wet problem (great ones on ebay, search for Helens Hooves and Paws, nothing to do with me but I recommend them all the time).

We are, as a trial, introducing schrumpf grippy leather on some of our showing saddles as a lower maintenance way to get more grip.

Thanks for replying, I think im going leather as it will be used everyday hopefully later i will get back into showing but manly for now just hacking, they open @ 9am so going to call them. X
