Got a pair of suede seat jods and tried them out yesterday. Was the oddest feeling, felt like I was stuck to the saddle and didn't like it at all. Does anyone else think this or is it just me lol!

I used to love them but can't stand them now-for long hacks they can be very uncomfortable! And having either suede or buffalo hide saddles, they are extremely non-slippy.

not just me then lol, I tired a pair once found them very uncomfortable more so than non riding rigid fit jeans they were hard, not stretchy and unpleasant to sit on in the saddle, much prefer my stickybum jods or a seat saver if im in a slippery saddle

That is the whole point of them - riders are not supposed to slide around in the saddle.

Admittedly I bought them online thinking the seat was normal jod material and the rest was denim which I thought would be better than full denim :-) .

Really didn't like the feeling of being stuck to the saddle. Ah well , glad it's not just me being weird and that felt they are strange :-)

The only pair I have seem to hover rigidly about a foot away from my arse and are impossible to ride in. I've never tried as I could barely sit down in them.

You get used to it. I bought a pair as they were reduced. I hated them at first but within a couple of weeks didn't even notice.

Did you find they loosened up over time? Agree with 9tails in the way they sit - at least there won't be an uncomfortable wedgie issue

I don't think I ever noticed them loosening up or becoming more flexible but I didn't pay that much attention to it so I'm not sure if they changed or if I got used to them. I just know they got better - or I got better in them!

erm, yes thanks ;) I get that. For longer rides though no slip at all = discomfort. They were useful when my last horse was younger though, I may have to dig them out again!

Sorry, MOC, I was answering OP, not you. They certainly can be useful on young horses.

I have been surprised in RL that some riders seem to think that they are supposed to slide around in the saddle - I think it is a misunderstanding of the phrase "drop your weight"

I bought a pair in the derby house sale & was so looking forward to them arriving - the info said "full stretch suede seat" and honestly there is no give in it whatsoever. Very odd feeling as the rest of them was so stretchy!

I think I've worn them twice since January!

I find cheap suede ones don't stretch and are a pain to ride in, I have some with lovely stretchy suede seats and love them to bits :D

Same here, bought a new pair not to long ago and am not loving them. Feels odd to have stretchy bits and then not stretchy seat bit. Am hoping they'll soften up if I ride in them, buy I use my other jods most of the time now. Reckon they might be a bit hot too. Was going to use them for hacking in case extra stickiness needed.

I think I bought a pair of these too!! They are now my 'look stylish but in reality are incredibly impracticle, never-even-seen-a-horse jodphurs' which I occasionally wear for spectating at horsey events...

I had a pair of real suede seat ones that felt like a nappy but I could barely mount wearing them. I like the stretchy ones though, but they do take a bit of getting used to.
For real stick ability try suede seat Jodhs and a suede seat saddle:-)

I've had that wearing a nappy feeling too cobgoblin!

However, I quite like mine and they have definitely softened over time. Shame they're too big now...

I have a pair like this and they have a sticky type waistband to stop them falling down and if I wear them all day they hurt your hips as they just want to go south the entire time.

Oh I'm so relieved its not just me who just can't ride in suede-seats!! Gosh, I feel so much better now, knowing that others share my pain!!

I've got a pair of really thick thermal winter Musto jods, the fleece-lined ones. Got 'em mega cheap - and they have the artificial suede seat. I wore them on a three hour ride in the winter. Never, EVER again. It rained, and whilst the lovely fleecy material kept the top of my legs & thighs really nice cosy and dry, the "suede" seat got soaked through in no time and I had a really cold, squelchy, horrible sensation in my knickers for the whole ride! My backside was cold, wet & generally uncomfortable in all the wrong places :(

Added to that, they chafed really badly and as a result I developed a nasty sore in (ehm) rather an unfortunate place.

Before another winter they'll be going on e-bay!!

both my pairs of competition breeches (puffa & pikeur) are full suede seat & I love them, however it does make getting on harder !

however I have a pair of toggis for at home & they are too short in the leg & i can only wear them with my jump saddle as I can't physically extend my leg long enough in my dressage saddle!

I had a pair of full-seat Pikeur breeches which I adored - until the stretchy fabric part of them just sort of gave up and hung like saggy knickers off my legs. Not a good look. Think the fight between the full seat material and the stretchy stuff proved too much for the softer bit. Sad. They were blooming expensive.
Now I am poor, I ride in 12 quid jods from Aldi, which have kept in great shape for a year, but are slippery in the saddle. Luckily, horse is relatively sensible.

I own a few pairs and love them...I feel more secure in the saddle wearing them.
I don't like tight jods so always have a lot of give & maybe the looseness helps keep them comfortable.
I have a pikeur pair, that I love. They were expensive but I've owned them quite some time, they've washed well & are probably worth the extra cost!
