Some people have pm'd me wondering what happened - I issued a small claim against the saddle manufacturer I purchased a new "bespoke" saddle from for over £2000, which fitted neither me nor my horse.

The manufacturers have just sent me a cheque for the full amount, plus my epenses in raising the action. There was a possibility that the owner of the company would come and check the saddle fit in person but in the end they probably decided that it wasn't worth the expense of this.

The saddle was a Devoucoux - I think it only fair to mention the name of the maufacturer since I have already mentioned them and they have now resolved the issue satisfactorally.

Excellent, pleased it is resolved

That's really good. I remember your original post and not long after I was discussing it with my saddler who was of the opinion they don't actually make saddles to order in the first place...

Your big advantage is being solicitor if I remember.

I think a lot of us would give up because we didnt want the expense of hiring advice or losing battle.

I think thats right. It seems various different pre-sized sections are put together. But they are described as "bespoke" and the agent made various promises that it would fit me and enable me to have a better jumping position that my current saddle which was too big for me etc..

Its relatively easy to bring a small claim, but unless you have legal experience, you might find it quite stressful. Its also about knowing when to apply pressure and how much. But its sometimes better and less agro to issue a claim in court than spend months writing letters and hearing excuses.

Anyway, to give them their due, I have my money back now and they will be getting their saddle.
