SUGABABE UPDATE

Phoned the Vet Hospital in Germany this afternoon. Sugababe is doing well. She is apparently leaping about her box and full of life. They removed the packing from the eye socket yesterday and it appears to be healing well. The vet said she was a very sweet and lovely filly.

So she will remain at the Hospital until the beginning of next week. If all goes well she will go back to the people we have the mare with. From here she will need daily treatment to keep the eye socket clean and free from infection.

The stitches should be out in around 10 days time and she will still be on antibiotics for the next few days to keep up her immune system.

So have to phone the Vet Hospital again on Monday to see how she gets on over the weekend.

Its very difficult trying to deal with this when the animals are in a different country as you cant see what is going on for yourself first hand.

If you don't mind me asking, how come the mare is in a different country? Is she your mare or have you bought the foalie at weaning?

Thanks for your continued support everyone.

Becki - we purchased this mare at the beginning of the year in Germany. Her due date was around the 20th February so we could not get her home in time for foaling (as transporters quite rightly will not import mares too close to their due dates). So we had to leave her in Germany to foal. So we own both the mare and the foal.

I have to say that this is the first time we have ever done this as we like our mares to foal at home, but we thought all would be fine........

Glad to hear she seems to be recovering well!!! She seems to be adapting very quickly. Might be best she's in another country, these things look worse than they are. Once the stitches are out she will heal in no time. It will be quicker than you think. Keep us updated!
