how long does sugarbeet stay fresh in it's bag in a bin? i opened the bag in february and only use a small amount so dont get thru it very quickly. i think the use by date was december. should it be ok till then??

It will have a half life once its opened, but it shouldnt go off if its not yet soaked.
Its dry, it will eventually go stale, id say about 6 months myself, so id throw it, but you could be ok.

As long as it does not get damp it will last for a long while. If it gets moisture to it,it will go mouldy so make sure it is kept in a dry place.

cheers. think i might chuck it, there's not a huge amount left. dont want to risk belly ache. thinking of changing it for fibrebeet and using more and cutting down his chaff. then i'd get thru it quicker. it's proving to be a very cheap way to feed him. he's out 24/7 and in light work, so doesnt need much of anything. if one bag lasts me this long, it's worth it even if i do chuck some away. his chaff (happy hoof) lasts a good few months as he only gets half a scoop. but he wont eat the beet without the bit of chaff. fussy blighter.

i emailed british horse feeds in the end. they say the speedibeet should last over a yr if it's kept dry. it has no vits and mins in so it's fine. the fibrebeet has biotin in so should be used within 6 months.

I have some which is a year old at least.
will be using it come november. If its "off" it will small wrong and/or have mould on it in which case it should be binned. If its kept dry in a metal bin then it will keep for ages.

I used to use sugar beet and mine was in my sealed bin for about 6 weeks at a time. If I had binned it every 2 weeks it would of cost me a fortune!
