I have today bought a sack of shreds to mix with Dengie hifi for my boys, On the bag it says to soak for 24hrs - i've put it into a bin with some water ( not all of it just a bit) I haven't fed sugar beet for years, so this may be a stupid question, Does the beet absorb the water or does it have to be drained after 24 hrs? Thanks :p

It absorbs the water but if you put too much water in there may be some 'juice' on top. You can either tip the juice out or use it. Hope this helps :)

I usually soak shreds overnight or less. SB Cubes I soak for 24 hours as they are much denser and absorb a lot of water. With shreds I use 1 part shreds and 3 parts water or there abouts.

If you follow the directions 1:3 then you should not need to drain off any water. However, I have found that shreds do not expand anywhere near as much as pellets, and you do tend to need to drain.

For shreds 12 hours is really usually enough but they say 24hr to cover themselves I think.

Shreds I cover with water to about 1 inch over the beet.

For speedibeet flakes it needs almost 50% water 50% flakes I find and is ready in 10-20 minutes. I also find speedibeet actually lasts longer than shreds and so works out more cost effective, just for info!! :D

I've usually found that the shreds take far less time to soak - no more than 6 hours. I also find that they don't need anywhere as much water as they say on the bag no more than 1 Beet to 2 water. If you have too much water you end up chucking away some of the goodness.
