I have bought shred this time nstead of speedi-beet.

My thicko question is, does it have to have exactly 24hrs, I put it in at 10am, and usually feed the boy at around 9am, will it make any difference to feed it an hour short of the recommened time?

As long as you check it with ur hands that is has thoroughly dispersed adn is not longer in any lumps then I am sure 1 hour early will be ok x

It shouldn't make a difference no, just check through it visually before you give it to him to make sure it all looks fine but I can't see an hour causing any problems.

i think sugarbeet shreds are 12 hours and pellets are 24 hours! but i may be wrong. il look on the net!

I soak my pellets for about twelve hours. In the bucket at about 9pm, half fed at breakfast at 9am, the rest left in covered bucket and fed at 9pm. As long as there are no hard lumps in it's ok.

If you use very hot water to soak them then they will be much quicker. I soak mine at breakfast and use them at tea time.
I was a saddo and tested with a cup of both shreds and pellets in a larger bucket. They were both soaked in very hot water and I used a lot of water, more than just covering them.
Pellets take twice as much water if not more than shreds but if you don't use enough then they will take a lot longer and also not 'do' all the way through so you do need to really soak them as you can always drain it off when you want to use it and I always give it a stir before I add it.
Shreds done with very hot or boiling water, were ready to feed in about four hours; leaving them any longer, did not seem to make any difference although the longer you left either of them, the more they seemed to lose colour too.
When I used cold water, everything took more than double the time than for hot water; it also makes a difference how hot the day is too and where you put it while soaking, whether a cold tackroom or a warm kitchen.
The best thing is trial and error but each time, make sure the whole of them are soaked through and plump. Sorry for the lecture!

My old share horses have pellets, we sometimes didnt leave it for 24hrs. but always checked to make sure it was ok to give them. only used to give it 1-2hrs before the 24hr mark!

pellets are 24hrs shreds 12hrs. Dont forget sugar beet to speedi beet is toatly different one is mollased and one is not!

I use sugar beet pellets and just put them onto soak at about 7pm then they're fed next day at about 7ish, but I make sure I check it obviously and I use quite a lot of water. I dont feed a huge amount of it in one go anyway though.
