The basics of feeding sugarbeet pellets? Am trying it with my skinny lad, but not fed it before.
How much water?
How long does it keep?
Cheers!

A small black bucket (top up bucket) i put 1 and 1/2 scoops (big round scoops) of pellets and fill bucket upto top (1 inch from top) leave it for 24hours. it should keep for about 3 to 4 days (it lasts my 2 2 days)

Same as above, but think you leave it for 12-24 hours before feeding.

Mine get speedibeet, which is 1 part speedibeet to 3 parts water, leave for 12-15 minutes

I feed Ali my feed store's own brand of beet pulp nuts, and I put about 3 parts water to 1 part pulp nuts and leave it to soak overnight. I use a large sieve to drain away all the water, and I usually make a fresh batch everyday, but if it's kept in a cool place it should keep well for about 3 days... You'll know if it's gone off as it smells absolutely revolting (it goes sour when it's gone off).

Hubby has bought some for his cob recently. I think the bag says 5 x water to 1 x beet. We put a pint jug full into half a bucket of water and it seems to be right. A half bucket keeps fine for 5 days, probably would keep longer (kept in very cold barn)
Hope that helps

oops - yes, forgot the 24 hour thing.

Although it is a bit of a myth that it will swell up in horse's stomach if you don't soak it properly. Research has shown it does no real harm (although obviously not adviseable). The real danger of feeding it too dry is choke.

Thankies

. So stuff I started soaking on firday night would be ok to feed til tomorrow evening/until it starts to smell? It's very chilly at the moment!
Horses love it..sister has even started her mare on it cos she says it looks so nice!
