My horse is very well behaved- He schools fine and hacks on roads fine but I need a little bit more if we go cantering through open fields. Its especially important if im with my daughter or certain friends as mine is the "quiet" one and I often need to stay behind which at times is easier said than done especially right now as he's apparently feeling amazing :D
Like I say its not manners but realistically he's a big horse and I'm a smallish lady, we often have comments he'd be better suited to a man!
Before he was mine he was ridden in a 3 ring gag and flash. Ive currently got him in a cavesson and loose ring French snaffle which works perfectly 95% of the time.
Ive still got his gag but am a little hesitant to use it. Firstly is a single jointed bit which im not keen on but also I just dislike the huge lumps of metal, they look so untidy and harsh. Id also prefer something with copper or a warmer metal.
Im very light with my hands so have no qualms about a stronger bit- It will only be as strong as needed.
This has been suggested as something we know works, is copper, double jointed and looks a little smaller/neater!
Thoughts?

I use a dutch gag with a french link with mine, but that is just what he goes nicely in. I was also recommended to try a rubber pelham but didn't like that at all.

Sometimes its just a case of trying a few to see what works - can you borrow any from friends / a bit bank?

I have never seen the bit in the link so can't really comment on it, sorry, but you are right, it does look 'neat' :)

Sorry this post has not been very useful but at least it has bumped your thread!

Good luck!!!

I have a NS Universal, which I use with 2 reins. It looks very similar to the bit in the link and is made of 'Salox', which is a quite warm, soft metal. The horse can be strong when hacking but is very controllable with this bit. If she stops listening to the snaffle rein, I can easily bring the curb rein into play.
