Hello,
my daugther is going to London for a few days' holiday and she would like to visit an affordable equestrian store, where she could try on and possibly buy a show jacket.
I contacted PE to ask if they have a London store (I like their coloured show jackets), but they don't.
Can you suggest a good store in London, where she could find riding clothing at an affordable price?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I think you may struggle to find anything in Central London, rental prices are probably too high. Lillywhites used to do equestrian stuff but I don't think they exist any more and I think Harrods had a small equestrian department but I don't know if they do now.

We live in London and to be honest, I dont think there is one. When I started riding in 2001 there were some riding clothes including some Musto and a model horse in Harrods. But not now. We buy everything mail order or helmets and things that need expert fitting from Rokers next to the equestian college Merrist Wood out near Guildford. There are one or two shops also near Epsom.
Lillywhites is still there in central London but I am not sure they cover equestrian.
I have had to do any serious equestrian shopping in the shopping village at the Olympia horse show. And rely on recommendations from people on this forum.

Decathlon in Canada Water have an equestrian section reasonably priced. I have not been there for ages and cannot remember if they sell show jackets.

Lillywhites stopped doing equestrian years ago. College Farm in Finchley is the nearest i know and doable by public transport but definitely not central london. They have a website.

Your daughter needs to be clearabout the type of show jacket she might want. There are different types for different activities, and a huge selection these days. She might have more success going to one of the bigger shows where there are usually trade stands from a variety of different suppliers. Royal Windsor in May or one of the bigger county shows might be worth considering. If you’re looking at coloured jackets presumably you’re meaning for jumping rather than a tweed. The newer style of coloured jackets are made of a lighter weight material which has more stretch these days so they tend to be more forgiving than tweed and an easier fit.

You won’t find anything in London, better off having a day trip to a large equestrian event that has shopping like Windsor, badminton horse trials, London International/Olympia (unfortunately at Christmas!) Your Horse Live etc… or there is the National Equine Show in Birmingham in March?

Affordable, London and equestrian, you're not going to get 2, let alone 3 of those. Let us know her schedule, location in London and if she can travel (car hire would be the best for accessing tack shops, public transport isn't great generally) and we could help more.

Thank you for all your kind replies. My daughter is on a budget travel, she will be staying in London just for 4 days (leaving this Saturday) and she'll be travelling around by public transport.
I'm afraid she won't be able to attend any equestrian event. She was looking for a competition jacket (coloured, if possible). Modern lightweight fabric is OK.
Apart from London, probably "affordable" and "riding" is not the best combination of words :)

I just can't see she'll be able to get anywhere with this, unless she can get online and get orders sent to her to try. So many will be made abroad and by foreign brands too, so being in the UK may make no difference at all.

We live in Italy and we used to buy PE products ordering them via web, but unfortunately due to post-Brexit shipping costs + duties this is no longer possible.
Moreover, when it comes to clothes and boots, one would like to try them on before buying. Sending back an item for size replacement would be ludicrously expensive.
That's why she was hoping to find a PE store. We like that brand, but you're right, there are so many other brands around, so we'll just stick to something that we can find here.

Premier equine focus their sales online and of the shops that do sell it, they seem to keep mainly rugs in stock.

College farm that I mentioned do have a variety of jackets in different price ranges, they won't have everything on their website. They sell PE but not sure if they have jackets.

You can get the Northern line to Finchley Central, it's about a 15 minute walk from there or get a bus. Done it myself lots of times.

I wouldn't buy Decathlon in the UK (which is the only other option in London) if I had the option to buy in Europe as the exchange rate they use means it works out more expensive to buy in £.

Is there anywhere else in the UK that your daughter is visiting on her trip? It may be that she'll be able to find what she's looking for elsewhere on her travels?

Actually, PE sales service replied to my query suggesting College Farm. I had a look at their website, but apparently they have only 3 PE items in stock and none of them clothing. Maybe, they do not show everything on their website.
I'll pass on your directions to my daughter. Many thanks for your help.

We have many Decathlon stores in my city, I suppose they sell the same products. Their show jackets are a bit low quality, I think, but I'll have another look.

The website is what they sell online, they have a other stock in house and would be very helpful if you emailed but my experience generally is people still focus on PE for rugs so that is what shops have in so I wouldn't expect to find jackets in stock.

Still they will have other brands for her to try and cover a range of price points.

I agree that I would be more likely to go to Decathlon for day to day stuff rather than competition. Just wanted to make the point that the £ price is more than the sane product in € so would choose to buy in Europe if I had the choice.
