Hi, does anyone have any suggestions of a good winter turnout rug for my TB please.

I would like a really good one as hoping to keep him out for most of the winter if I can (although he does have a stable when its realy bad) so want something to keep him really snug. Would you suggest he also wore a fleece type blanket underneath as well?

Ive a budget of £150. Hes 16.2hh and not especially fine I'd appreciate any advice as this will be my first winter with him.

thanks

I have a medium Horseware Rhino Wug for my old TB (on the right). The arab filly (left) has the same. I am very pleased with them and my horses live out all winter happily in them. They have never leaked or rubbed and don't slip. Neither of these horses are worked or clipped, but you could get the heavyweight version if your horse needs a bit more warmth. :)

ETA. I'm not a fan of putting fleeces under turnouts.

ETA. If you haven't used Horseware rugs before, you might need to go up a size. The TB has a 6ft lightweight Shires rug but she needed a 6ft3 Horseware Rhino. :)

IMO the very best rug on the market is the Rambo Supreme HW/420gm :)

My veteran wore one in the worst of last winter's weather (out 24/7, in the fens & snow) and she was plenty warm enough in it :)

What size are you looking for? I'm selling my v nearly new one ;) As sadly my old girl has passed away and I need to cover her cremation costs :(

hi i will have him measured and get back to you, how much are you selling it for? sorry to hear about your horse what happened to her?

Thank you.

She was a good age for her size (25 yrs at 16.2) and been with us for 14+ years :( she was my first horse. :(

She became ataxic. I'm relieved to say she had no pain or suffering; she was mentally alert and v much herself to the last but her body was tired.

The rug is a 6'9" - Rambos are a fair bit more generous than rhinos in depth, which is why I like them as my girl was a good MW.

Measure from the v centre of the chest, in a straight line, to the point on the hindquarters level to the top of the tail :)

The rug is as good as new, hardly done many weeks. I am asking a bit within your budget, incl. postage & being professionally cleaned & reproofed, so message me if you think it may be of use to you :)

just adding to the above, rambo's seem to come up smaller in length than some of the other makes too, not sure if it's because they hug the shoulder a little more than some?
