Would appreciate recommendations for short trail / trekking holiday break for mum & daughter. Has anyone been on one good & bad pointers. Thank you, ideal areas wales, lakes north yorks etc...
It's a trekking centre in wales where you ride out and stay in a BB for as many nights as you want and but the good thing is if you don't want one (i.e just your Mum and sister) you don't have to have an instructor. Just you go with your hired ponies on a trail with a map, hence the name 'free' rein.
I am going to do it with my OH when I can teach him the basics (in a desperate attempt to get him 'into' horses) lol
Anyway, as I have said I have heard good things. Goodluck.x
I can vouch for FreeRein. Once tried, you are hooked for life. The guys there are very laid back and this is ideal for those who like to do their own thing and don't need any instruction.
If you need something a little more structured, I'd also recommend Trans Wales, although their rides are all guided. www.transwales.demon.co.uk
Free Rein gets my vote too, have done 3 of their unguided trail rides. Basically they give you the horse, a map and instructions and off you go! They take your luggage to yuor evenig's destination along with feed for the horse and a grooming kit. Lovely forward going but sensible horses, fantastic scenery, have ridden all day and not seen a soul, great accommodation, easy horse care, no work, no kids, no men, no mobile phones - bliss!
