Suggestions/ideas to help prevent abscesses please?

With so many of us struggling with abscesses on our horses hooves has anyone got any ideas/thoughts on how to help prevent them or is it just "one of those things".

If anyone suggests diet could they please suggest the diet they think is appropriate,

I use a sole hardener made by my vet, it has a disinfectant in it and hardens the hoof, kills bacteria like thrush & stops things piercing the sole & causing abscesses.
