Suicidal TB update...

So I spent last night at the yard - just as well I did as she had a mild stress induced colic episode about 2am... trying to walk a horse round that doesn't know where it's back legs are is ... erm... interesting! Did ring the vet but she didn't think it sounded serious enough to come out (before anyone says anything I trust my vet completely and she really knows her stuff) but she would if she got worse. Thankfully after about an hour of walking her round it seemed to be ok and she poo'ed fine.

Today she seems a lot better, still somewhat wobbly but she is standing with her legs more where they should be and only leaning on the wall occasionally rather then constantly, although she is still not standing "square". I'm not sure whether or not the walking around actually did her good or she was on the mend anyway, but either way she has improved massively since yesterday. Vet saw her again today and thinks that it is now more likely that she has trapped a nerve rather than broken her neck however whether or not she will be ridden again is still in question. She will still have the X-Rays done on Monday but it now seems more for my piece of mind rather than for necessity.

Thanks all, I'm not nearly as worried as I was yesterday but still concerned obviously. It sounds daft but I did think about colic yesterday as a friends horse always got it after a 'traumatic event'. Will probably stay there over the weekend just to be safe, and to give her some extra meals as she will only eat little and often and I need to get the bute in her.

Good to read that beyond the extra worry of the colic attack you've seen some improvement, fingers crossed for the outcome of the X-rays tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that she had a colic expisode aswell. Good to hear you have seen some kind of improvement in her.

Exactly the same thing happened to my mare 18 months ago, not in the same way but exactly the same symptoms - she was staggering around like a cow with BSE She had trapped a nerve in her back rolling and was right as rain in 3 months I do feel for you though because it was one of the scariest things I've even witnessed with my horses, the vet thought she'd had a stroke initially and we didn't know if she'd be alive the next day. She propped herself up on the wall for a couple of days and then got better quite quickly

Got to the yard this morning, and led her out as per vets orders.... walked round calm as you like nice swinging forwards walk in a straight line!! Vet rang to see how she was today and after hearing this thinks she was just bruised and sore so the drugs are obviously working. Now no need for x-ray but vet still comiing back tomorrow as planned to give her the once over. Back person will be out as soon as bruising has had time to go down.

What an utter relief - is this what owning a TB is like - one 'heart-failure-moment' after another?!

It's alright, it was for the best!!

I have a new one lined up! A gorgeous blue and white Vanner x but I think the world is still against me at the moment... Just want to get him here! His owner is being amazing
