Just wondered if anyone on here has had to do the above and how long it took to get a satisfactory result. I am in the very sad position of having an unrideable horse due to something serious being missed at the vetting. It is now five weeks and I still have not heard from their insurers! It is causing alot of distress and was wondering how much longer I may have to wait.

A client of mine did settle with vets insurance co. following mistake at vetting,I think she had to get second opinions,in her case fairly easily done.
I believe she dealt with it all herself ,lots of letters etc.

Thanks. I am going to contact their insurers today and if I don't get any answers I will consult a solicitor.

I'm sorry I have no experience but just wanted to wish you luck. My previous horse was misdiagnosed for a number of months due to an over keen vet wanting to find something else other than what my horse actually had, due to her enthusiasm for writing her thesis about the subject. Very sadly common sense went out of the window and my horse did suffer somewhat due to the delay in a correct diagnosis being obtained after referral. He was PTS after second diagnosis to end his mental and physical suffering. I wrote to the head of the department where the vet was based but they all 'stuck together' and whilst admitting there had been a delay in reaching a diagnosis did not think that this delay could really have been avoided. I disagreed with their findings particularly as the emergency vet who attended the horse right at the beginning of the claim actually said he thought the horse had the illness he was eventually PTS for.

I was considering suing them but did not proceed as I was so overwraught and upset about the outcome.
Vets are not infalliable and do make mistakes and should be disciplined accordingly. They should also be liable to being prosecuted should they Courts find them guilty just like any other professional would be should they be found guilty.

I am sorry to hear what happened to you, Applecart14. This is very straightforward and a complete mis-diagnosis at the vetting which he has admitted to. But I am not happy with the length of time this is taking. I really do not have the time or money to get another one so at the moment I am unable to ride. It is very frustrating. Thanks Rach-w - if I don't get anywhere by the end of the week I will email you.
