My oh has started riding. He's been riding in jeans but is finding it very uncomfortable round his nether regions. He refuses to wear breaches (which is fine, I wouldn't let him out the house in a pair. He really doesn't have the bum, or legs to pull them off!) He tried riding with his cycling shorts underneath his jeans but this didn't help. Any suggestions to make his crown jewels safe/pain free/comfy whilst in the saddle?

I could imagine that jeans would be a bit too snug round his never regions while sitting on a horse and could rub and or dig in. If he's really adverse to breeches would a softer jogging bottom with cycling shorts underneath be any better? May feel worse but then it may be a slight improvement. I know when I took OH riding he found jeans really painful, but found joggers slightly better, with some decent snug boxers.

Other than that I don't really have any suggestions but hope you find some suggestions.

Why no breeches? My OH wears breeches and half chaps. But the rubbing problem doesnt necessarully go away. You can get rubbed by breeches too.
My OH got rubbed by the seams in cheaper breeches, so I bought him pricier ones, Pikeur.
But I would look into the jeans and the sort of jeans. My OH also rides in jeans when riding Western. But you need jeans designed for riding. Wranglers are what we have - but you have to make sure you have a style intended for riding. They can be hard to buy in UK, but I was told that companies selling clothes and equipment for polo often have them. Or for Western riding.
Many of the brands last summer offered riding trousers that looked like jeans, so that would be another possibility. Just that my OH says he doesnt need them.
If you get jeans designed for riding and they still rub your OH, the USA solution is to advise men going off on a whole day's hunting trip to wear a pair of womens thin nylon tights under them.

As above - he really should be in something designed for riding. My OH will ride in old combats etc (so, soft fabric) but looks way better in his jods/breeches. He has riding shorts (as in specifically designed for riding undies) which he'll wear under either. They come in a briefs version too if you man isn't the boxers type.

Having the same problem with my OH! He's not a rider but is horsey (mainly ground work) We've both just started the same course at uni (as mature students eek) and any practical session we do, which is only ever ground work, he has to wear Jods and half chaps. He's also decided recently to finally learn to ride and he's found the Mark Todd Breeches the most comfortable...although I have to pretty much batter him out the door in them, given the choice he'd wear trackies lol

Seconding the combat pants, my OH likes to ride in Howies trademark Epic Cotton trousers but sadly it doesn't look like they're in stock :( but they were a very light and soft material with a slight stretch. You could try some of the stretchier Craghopper trousers too.

i don't think there is any alternatives than riding with breeches. i always like breeches plain front as they keep everything in place. may be op's oh can try some breeches with multiple pleats. i personally dont like them as they have too much rooms...i only ride with pikeur or cavallo. others are just not good enough...but thats just me...
:) :) :)

Equipants - my OH swore by them ! Also he liked the mountain horse breeches. He refused to wear anything that showed any bulgy bits ( Thank God )

Hi all, I've just got back into riding and started in jeans, after a few hour hack with my partner and a sore backside because of the seams I found and bought some jeans/breeches from decathalon. So far, so good!
