Hi everyone,

I have used these forums for years and find it a fab source of information! So I thought you guys would be the best bet to advise me on this :)

I have owned horses for years and used to groom for friends but never took a horse of my own out so am pretty clueless when it comes to shows..

I'm hoping to get my new boy Dylan out this year after a LOT of hard work with him as he was practically a welfare case when I got him. He is a 16h Dutch warmblood x Cleveland bay ( so we are led to believe) and I am unsure what classes would be suitable to show him in hand? I've been told he's a bit heavy for a hacking horse but not heavy enough for hunter !? I'd really love to hear what you lovely folks would suggest for him.. And how he should be turned out and what I should be wearing for the class..

I know it's not the greatest pic but I've not got one of him standing square on my iPad..

Thank you,

Chris :)

I don't know much about showing big horses but I think hunters may be split in to lightweight and heavy which may give you an option

Also there are classes fir riding horses and sports horses but not sure if those are in hand too

Not an expert either but I don't think he would look out of place as a hunter, you do get lightweight hunters. Probably the best thing to do is ask the people who run the show you want to enter, and you may find yourself entering different classes to try it out and then you can carry on with the one you do best in. If you enter the wrong one at a local level they will probably just say 'have you thought about putting him in xx class?'

He's lovely anyway!
