Exactly what OT was saying and one of the reasons that Harthill Stud was set up - to fulfill that need. Even with short format he still prefers the TB or Irish horse as he thinks they have more brains, agility and stamina rather than a WB, even a WB x TB, which he always finds stuffy and brainless in comparison.

I was not thinking WB actually. Too many TB's have poor feet which is not helpful in keeping shoes on or the horse sound enough for eventing. And if the result is a colt who is then gelded & is not cut out for eventing his old fashioned breeding is not really going to make much difference. If it is a filly then she can join the breeding gene pool to keep the old fashioned TB blood lines going. My point is that there are enough TB's being bred that do not make it on the race track that are then having to find another job. A lot of them will be tried out as eventers, therefore the market is flooded with TB's. It is why I was not interested in using a TB on my own mare.

The TB IMHO will not be outshone by the WB when it comes to eventing, but they will have to perform in the dressage arena. They will have to be careful enough for the show jumping as well as having the scope. The XC is only part of it & the changes mean that a poor dressage test can loose placings. Look at how improved the dressage is now where eventers are concerned.

LOL!! Glad I wasn't the only one to think it an interesting combination... I loved Miner, but he was a tricky character and ever so sensitive, with an enormous sense of humour. The majority of his kids and grandkids that I have known have been similar, though they have generally been quite trainable.

But someone like Oliver Townend would and hence why I said a pro.

The OP has said they want to breed an Eventer...I take that as they want to breed something capable of going all the way to the top?

If I wanted to breed an ammy ride to do Riding club ODE's and BE 90 then I'd probably go for a Conny cross something else.

But she's got a nice TB mare that is capable of producing something top class with a pro.

Do we know what the OP is aiming for ? :)
 
Decent 4* eventers seem to average about 75% TB so I would be looking for something to add the dash of something else.

Something like Kiltealy Spring maybe?
Rubicell has produced the super smart River of Joy and has a good dose of TB.
Hand in Glove? I just love Treason.
Shogoun II produced Opgun Louvo and has also got a lot of TB http://www.stallionlocator.com/en/stallion/96/shogoun-ii

She is my only broodmare and I do wish to produce something which will be capable of top level eventing. I have done up to 1* as a junior and event at the moment (lower levels) but only to get a record for my current horse which i'm about to advertise for sale (prob in H&H :D) anyway once he has gone to a wonderfull deserving home I have no intentions of competeing again.

I hope to keep the foal, back it and bring it on till its ready to compete and then sell it on if its a colt or find a rider if its a filly. Im a bit old fashioned and the more I look at all the stallions the more im drawn towards the older breed lines, and def nothing over £700 as I dont wish to be tempted to mollicoddle it!
