Corroy's summer coat is really quite thick this year. I just wondered if it's the weather or that she is getting older. I am even thinking about clipping her as she is just getting so hot from work. Any ideas?
I would get her tested, My boy is fine we do clip him out in the summer cos he gets to hot (and through winter) he has had it ten years now, we just have to watch his weight as they can be prone to laminitis
Even if it is cushings its not the end of the world. My friends horse died at 36 with cushings, and she had it from 16. They kept her clipped out all the time and she lead a perfectly normal life (apart from all the clipping obviously).
If i was you id think about getting her clipped out and see what her coat is like after a month or so after clipping.
Im sure she didnt have that thick a coat when i saw you at Crofton tho did she?
Also Archie's coat isnt that thin yet, hes still moulting slightly - dont forget the weather has been pretty eratic, so poor Corroy might just be confused about what time of year it is!
My 4yo has just started moulting for the second time... trying to work out if she thinks we're returning to winter, or whether she's decided the summer outfit she'd opted for was the wrong one!
So far Libby's just seems to be getting finer, looks much the same. Didn't have her last year so have nothing to go by. Have known many horses that needed a summer clip, but not when they previously hadn't, so nothing more helpful to add, sorry.
Guess if she starts to look uncomfortably hot you give her a clip, and if she starts to look like she might be "missing something" you give her a supplement and/or a check-up.
I clipped my guy and his coat comming through nice, but the others that where not clipped are still hanging onto their coats quite well, obviously weather not THAT warm yet
