Hi guys, my gorgeous creature is trying the forageplus Summer Balancer to see if we can get to the bottom of his twitchy jumpiness.
Problem is he is a good doer

He gets a mug of Fast fibre (before soak) and a sliced apple to carry his supplement but its not enough to get him eating the new supplement.

I don't want to mess with what he is eating too much as that will confuse the results of feeding this supplement.

He is out 24/7 on very short grass.

Thanks in advance.

You might need to start with a little bit of the balancer and then increase it slowly, it takes them a while to get used to the taste of the minerals.

Or you could try adding in various herby things (mint, cinnamon & aniseed work well)

Mine are on the forage plus summer balancer as well and get a small amount of sloppy unmollassed kwikbeet and a bit of top spec lite chaff with theirs. They're wolfing it down, and one in particular is usually quite fussy...I mix it really thoroughly...and stir the bit of chaff thro it which is quite minty...have even been able to slide some particularly smelly global herbs anti fly stuff past them with this mix as well..I'm quite amazed tbh!

Yeah could almost eat it myself!;) it does wonders for disguising things...I even slipped wormers by them with this combo
been on the forage balancer round about a month I think...they are all looking super shiny and well on it, after coming out of the tough winter looking a bit poor...
I have a spooktastic one too who I'm monitoring for any improvements...he's better than last summer when he wasn't on it tho guess there are other variants at play too...he is also quite riggy so have put him back on rig calm too (love him, he gets more powder than food these days!) which will also help.
It's packed full of goodies anyway...will see how it goes and if good probs do the winter one too. Mine winter out and forage has been so poor they need all the help they can get if we don't have a good harvest again.

Thanks mr c has been through the mill. He is a real dude and looks a million dollars but the last part of our jigsaw is the jumpiness and over reacting.

Do you find he is worse in the summer? My drama queen boy is...he falls over himself with fright on a frequent basis at this time of year in the extreme
Hence me thinking summer balancer as maybe you are too?

Yes I do absolutely. Last year was a mess so I didn't put 2 and 2 together. Bought March 2012. Was really spooky July onwards but then diagnosed Kissing Spine October so I put it all down to pain. We didn't have a winter it was hard labour for us both. Now we have also solved another issue which was with his teeth (don't ask sigh). I now have the cutey pie I bought back except for the spookiness.

Oh gawd you have both been thro the mill then...so now you have dealt with ks n teeth, mineral deficiencies and/or remembered behaviour seems logical...sigh I spend far too long scratching my head over my spooky boy, that's for sure...

Just picture me at the yard having found a very frightening cone and stick had been moved dancing and skipping with a 15.3 posh cob singing Lala Lala we aren't frightened and feeding him little slivers of carrot.

That picture is all too familiar
Before the grass madness kicked in we were, however, having a lot of success with clicker training...my boy has been very noise sensitive and the sound of the clicker (once I established what it meant) swiftly followed by a food reward (appealing to his utter greed) really seemed to distract him from his spooks and help him focus.
Have you tried clicker training with your boy at all?
