Summer Rugs!

Hello,

wondering if any of you can help me? im looking after a friends horse while she is on holiday, she is a welsh pony and was clipped about 6 weeks ago but her hair has grown really quickly! its really nice out now and too hot for her to have a new zeland rug on when in the field can anyone tell me what other type of rug would be ok to put on her as she cant go out without one?

Has she got a cotton sheet or fly sheet?

Do you know what size rug she takes?

She has a cotton sheet do you think she will be ok in that as it might let the wind through it?

You could put a surcingle round it, that may help keep it on, if it feels warm where you are, stick her out without anything, just bring her in before 4pm, thats when it starts going abit chilly

A cotton sheet is, effectively, a summer sheet... I'm guessing the reason your friend wants a rug kept on her pony is to keep her clean?

Can you get hold of her owner? She might get the cotton sheet a bit grubby in the field, personally I would drop her a text and ask first

the way i look at things is...would YOU wear a thick duvet all day in this weather??

i think not...get the rugs off....

Just leave her without one on all day and rug her up over night. My pony has a high trace clip and this is my routine with him.
