I don't think we've got a weekend plans thread for this week yet?

I'm not doing anything that exciting, lesson on Saturday and hacking on Sunday, but does anyone have anything fun and exciting planned?

Heading to my favourite local show on Sunday (although extremely sad that it appears to be the last one they’re doing ☹️) for some inhand with baby spots. The judge appears to dabble in welshes so not sure she’s going to appreciate the giant spotty warmblood but we’ll have to wait and see!

Not terribly exciting by lots of people's standard's but started my weekend a bit earlier as used lieu time to go on a two and half hour hack yesterday afternoon in the glorious sunshine 🌞

Had a brilliant lesson v.early his morning (full of extra love for pony 😍 ) although back working today - boo :( ), popping over to spectate at Hickstead for a bit over the weekend and hacking again in-between. I might even bath pony as it's supposed to stay sunny and warm, if we can such believe such things!

Have a great weekend all!

Ben will be titivated a bit in readiness for the big show! We've had a huge panic this week as the secretary email to say my entries are on hold as Ben isn't registered as gelded - I've never checked this in his passport as he came to me already gelded (from my sister who acquired him gelded). But turns out it's never been signed by a vet, so we have an appointment early next week to get him examined and his passport signed retrospectively. Hopefully I can get his passport back in time for his entries to go through. We are just going to continue to prep as if we are going until we know any different.

Reggie will do some more ground work and maybe wear a bit of tack.

I'll ride robin in the field as they are resurfacing the road from our place to the forest today/tomorrow. Might try a little canter if he is as good as he was last week.

Enjoy the sunshine everyone.

I'm not sure what she'll think of a small feral, hairy pony either! She'd probably love Babycob but his antics upset too many people last time so he's grounded

Arena hire on Wed and we had right canter (woohoo!!) so I'm very much hoping physio / vet / everyone apart from me is right that it's a strength & training issue. I can feel as we go round a corner that he's not as strong with that right hind, but it's improving each week. Maybe I'll have a chance at riding prelim after all this summer.

Took the microcob up to Wendover woods this morning. She was a bit underwhelmed and I'm not sure if that was the hills or the fact I have stopped her antihistamines. Usually she's a total pocket rocket in a new location but you could have popped a baby on her today and she'd have plodded round.

Now to get her clean before Sunday!! The pony that loves to roll...... Might be a very early start Sunday morning ......

(& How did it get to midsummer already 🙄)

How is your right side? I have issues with one shoulder, and if I manage to straighten myself out, we get the correct canter that way (Imagine, riding correctly gets the correct response...). I know a lot of people struggle with right canter and I'm starting to have a hunch because of the way we use computers, drive etc a lot of us don't have totally straight shoulders which affects it- just a random theory!

I definitely know the feeling that every canter on the correct leg feels like a win 😅

I have an old shoulder injury on my left which does cause some odd rotation. Last month every single photo / video of me (on both ponies) I looked like my right leg was shorter than my left. My physio got stuck in and I look straighter so I definitely don't think I'm helping. I was having to over think where my body was to get right canter, so add that to his weaker stifle and I might be doing Intro dressage for another year!

Oh and I have a very obvious wonky collar bone so not a lot straight here!!

No riding for me until Wednesday. I booked a hack because I got all in my head about the dressage test stuff and it's also due to be hot. Although the forecast keeps changing. I will be annoyed if the weather turns out to be pants!

I also have an old shoulder injury (fell off a horse into an arena fence as a teenager sort of thing) and both my regular instructor and another lady I have had a few clinics with now have pointed out it comes forwards and up compared to the other. Possibly doesn't help I spend at least an hour a day sitting on a lab stool with no back support, as well. Anyway, in the school at the moment, I have to feel like I am really overtwisting on a circle on that rein to get the correct canter lead.

Tbf though I know it's not my pony because he will offer canter on both legs after a jump or on a straight line. But also I do think if we are the only person to ride our ponies (or the only regular rider) our bodies affect them too.

Anyway may not apply to you, but it was interesting because an instructor said to me we pay so much for physio/vet treatments for our horses and ignore our own bodies. Over the summer I have thought about seeing a human chiropractor or getting a sports massage to sort my own back out!

Fingers crossed for the weather, it was supposed to hammer it down last night here, and then it only really drizzled so I could have a lesson in the jump field this morning!

I'm on 6-8 week physio visits just to keep me mobile (old age and old injuries!). I do think I'm part of the problem but we are making headway thankfully. Nailed the correct strike off this morning but I forgot it had rained and we nearly hit the deck cantering round the corner on wet grass 😳 Thankfully he seems ok but I need to remember his right hind isn't as strong as I'd like. I think he's also understanding my wonky instructions better now too!

But I can highly recommend human bodywork - my physio can always tell if I've been stuck at a desk for too long....

Sounds like a pretty successful day, glad you didn't hit the deck!

Good luck for tomorrow!

I've been running a camp so off the forum but someone did not show up on Friday night so my lovely YO boxed Lottie over for me yesterday afternoon so I could sneak in a cheeky SJ lesson after the camp lessons finished. Lottie was WILD!! She is feeling mega. I then took her round the farm ride this morning and she was on a mission all the way round. Jogging most of the walk, asking to canter most of the trot, asking to gallop for most of the canters. Just super happy and keen. It was very quiet. I only saw 2 riders all the way round, so in a few places I was able to let her stretch out, and we had a blast. The idea was to take some fizz out of her before another after camp SJ lesson this afternoon. Not sure it worked though. She could have gone round 3 times. I feel I really just need to get her over poles little and often to get her head back in the game. We are not even over 70 yet, and only jumping a few lines utill she gives me a better feeling, then leaving it there. 20-25 mins is plenty. We are not yet ready to compete but it feels like I am on the road back to that. It no longer seems a ridiculously impossoble goal. Which I guess is a start.

Glad to hear competing feels realistic again- I hope you enjoyed your blast- I imagine running camp is ridiculously stressful!

I may argue with the photo uploading gremlins later because my little microcob absolutely nailed showing today and we have a champion sash for the in-hand.

It must be 7 years since she last went to any sort of show and she was incredible. Zero expectations from me but the judge loved her. Placed 1, 2, 1 in her classes and as soon as I knew she'd got the in hand cob I decided to hang on for the championship and the pony was on fire!

I should've been at @Ambers Echo camp 🥲 the photos i've seen look great though! Once Buzz is all sorted I will def be booking on to one.

He's doing well with his fat camp ahead of steroids in a few weeks. His belly has shrank by 5 cms 😆 and on the weight tape he has gone from 476 to 460 already (I know they're in accurate but it gives me something to track it with at least). The painkillers are doing the job though as he's obviously feeling great, he ran off with me out hacking the other day! Had a great time blasting up a hill until he stopped at the top almost grinning. I've been going further solo as well which I never would have done before, he's turned into such a great little hacking pony since moving yards.

Hopefully the steroids will do the job and he'll be back to low level stuff in no time.

I had a fantastic time at camp it's the first year I've gone without anything specific to work on, and it was really nice just to rock up to each session and join in with whatever was happening. Riding for that long with the romel reins means I'm finally getting the hang of them, although lots of practice is needed to work a lariat as well as holding them! :) The weather was gorgeous, so I enjoyed sitting out in the sunshine nattering with friends as much as I did the riding part. It highlighted how far we've come and was just what I needed, home and relaxed with happy faces. To top it off, Amber did really well at the show yesterday, enough to win her first sash for the open high point. She gets a little time off now as she's being vaccinated tomorrow. Hopefully, the weekend weather will still be nice enough for a gentle hack with friends.Atmospheric head shot.jpg

One very surprised human and her fluffy pony!!

My legs are killing me today. I used to help a friend who showed welshies and she always said people didn't run fast enough to let their ponies show off their incredible action. The microcob can really trot so I channelled my inner Usain Bolt and sprinted - obviously worked but my muscles got a shock.

Went through the pro photos today and there are so many gorgeous horses that I'm still overwhelmed that we won. Over hearing one of the team telling a cob owner who was down the line to us that they came up against a 'cob of that quality' today got me a bit choked up. Life isn't all about rosettes but she's been through surgery, rehab, box rest, remedial shoeing, twice daily walk outs etc etc etc and at one point I was looking for a companion home for her - so yesterday just felt like the pony gods were giving me a thank you.

I nearly didn't take her!!

It was glorious sunshine! I so wish I could share the photo my instructor took but not my horse.

My instructor came out with me on foot. Fair play to her jogging in the heart when we did a little bit of trot! A really good confidence building ride in some wonderful countryside. I need to find the goals thread because I think this is another one of the hacking goals ticked off. Yay!

Another new horse ridden, another one fallen in love with and experience gained navigating the bin men, a motorbike, dogs and a walking group. Horse was happy as anything apart from to look at a suspicious bit of drain 😂
