Summer turnout boots recommendations?

Out new loan horse has managed to gouge his own back legs twice in the past week, I presume where he's been kicking at flies and has caught himself, he has got wimpy TB thin skin!

I'm thinking the safest option may be some turnout boots, but these aren't something I've ever used (don't really use boots ever!), so can someone recommend some?? I'm worried about his legs getting too hot but need to balance that against potential vets bills for cuts!

Last summer mine was bandaged for what seemed like an eternity after gauging his legs really badly, I think due to fly irritation.
They won’t protect from cuts but I found once the legs were healed shires turnout socks kept the flies off and just stopped the stamping and irritation that caused the cuts in the first place.

Thanks for that - having watched him I think he's also kicking at flies that are on his tummy and sheath too (he's got a fly rug), but I'll check out the turnout socks!

I've never used the Shires turnout socks but I do use their turnout boots in winter to protect from mud and the quality is just excellent - thick enough material to protect from his kicks as well I'd imagine.

I haven't tried it but I saw on fb someone say they use human socks and cut them at the bottom with the elastic holding them up at the top of the leg.

I used thin tights with cool water and fly spray on them kept the flies from biting and didn’t over heat the legs just make sure to put the elastic part at the top or they fall down
