I need a new light weight turnout for my horse. Have been through several ones with no filling in them, just the waterproof outer. Whenever there any rain at all, I find they get soaked right through very easily. I've tryed reproofing the rugs I've got but it doesn't seem to work. Using a 100g NZ now, but he's too warm in it. I don't like turning him out without a rug because he's really prone to rain scald.
Can anyone recommend a very waterproof turnout rug with no filling?
Many thanks

Horseware always wins for me - they stay waterproof & last for years. Rambo lite if you have the £££s - it costs pretty much the same as a filled one - or my youngster is in the heavier / tougher outer Amigo lite (I seem to remember they have 2 outer weights) & is staying dry, clean but not hot.

I bought a cheap Saxon one for £24, thinking it would do for every now and then. It ended up getting almost constant use from May to November of last year, at which point I bunged it through the washing machine on an ordinary 30 degree wash, and it's been back in constant use again this year.
So far, stayed 100% waterproof, and doesn't even slip. Not sure whether it's a bit of a one-off though!

Have Amigos on my horses and they have been great and very good price too £28.20 for the 600d........... Also Premier Equine do a really nice l/w........

Bailey was out in his amigo 600d in constant rain through all Monday night and all day Tuesday, it still hadn't soaked through, took him in for a couple of hours in the evening, then back out in the rain last night and it's fine. I was quite surprised. Fab little rug!

I bought a Horseware one for £30 (cos there were no Saxons left in the right size!). My sister got a Saxon one though. Not used them v much, just after we clipped them this summer but think they will come in useful at the beginning and end of winter maybe and good as a 'spare' for our other older horse too as he doesn't often need a NZ rug.

I've got a Saxon one and a Weatherbeata one and they have both been fab - have had them two years now and haven't needed to reproof yet

I had a masta which was good but i would also recommend the amigo 600d - very reasonably priced. Check Derby House website - they might be on sale.

Horseware Amigo's - brilliant and a good fit. I like the 1200d one best - a bit tougher on the outer, but a bit more expensive - I paid £50 I think a month ago.

I have one from a small line called Jumpers and they are very much the same to the Mark Todd ones. Think it only cost me £30, unsure where you can buy them from though tbh as I got mine new from my local market.
Absolutly fantastic rug.

I like the Weatherbeeta Landa freestyle range. Combo if you want a neck cover too. Have had my youngsters out in them almost all summer (

), and they've been really realiable and waterproof even after the worst night's rain. The light weight version dries really fast too.
