Does anyone know what this places is like, as was thinking of doing some dressage, and possibly showjumping here over the winter, but have never been before.
Yes I know Summerhouse, competing there this weekend. Nice venue for dressage, I have heard the warm-up for SJ is a little cramped but the arena itself is new and very nice to jump on.
I'm just of juct 28 of M4. Depends on how far you want to travel, but Sunnybank does loads of dressage and showjumping and that's in Caerphilly, and Lower Stocklands does dressage over the winter and there just off junct 34 off M4.

Good for dressage and low level showjumping (up to about a metre?) Surface isn't that great to jump off outdoors, indoors is good

I thought the surface was fine - it's pretty much brand new. A lot of people go there to jump the 1.25s so it can't be that bad. The outside arena is enourmous. It is miles to go enter though and so are the toilets, the car park is pretty small as well, so you will get boxed in. They are also quite slow at course building it seems to take forever, even though there are about 20 working pupils sat in the middle of the arena doing not a lot.
But it is nice, usually well supported, very easy to get to.
Cricklands is 2 hrs drive from me. Great venue though. Carmarthen has Coombe Park Stables and Haverfordwest has Moor Farm. Newcastle Emlyn has Starlight which is supposed to be really good, but a b!tch to get to!
Surface gets very bad when wet or dry, very deep and horses don't jump well off of it! Its just sand no rubber or anything, just cos its brand new doesn't mean its good !
I've been plenty of times to know what its like and know a number of people who will only jump low level classes off of it
To be honest Summerhouse is worth a trip to really! The ring is a decent size outdoors, indoors warm up is big compared to others so is a pretty decent venue
