I've mentioned this on social media but for anyone who doesn't follow every last detail of Cudo and my life :p:D, Cudo prefers not to jump our normal heights (1.30 and up) in temperatures of over 82 degrees Fahrenheit/ 27 degrees Celsius.

So as a result we typically give him some time off or a lighter schedule in July and August. This year since we are revamping our ride style and skills to be better prepared for our bigger classes, we have done more lessons and brought in more true dressage/cavaletti work and even some lessons for me on pure American seat equitation (the show hunter style of riding) during this time. We have not given him the same kind of easier schedule this summer as we have in years past. I think it's been more beneficial and certainly I am hopeful that the fruits of these labors will appear in shows down the road for us.

This July, just solely due to weather, we ended up doing our jump schools 2 weeks apart instead of 5-7 days. As a result, he's been VERY happy when he does get to jump. Yesterday we schooled in our home ring for the first time in a WHILE. Cudo has historically not enjoyed schooling in their for a myriad of reasons and I am sure I added to it. But my trainer was at a show 6 hours away all weekend and he did need a school. So I dragged my hubby out to video. He was really good and I can really see the difference that the time we have taken and efforts we have made to improve things are really working. Thankfully it was raining and cooler when we jumped so he didn't get fatigued and was in fact quite bouncy here and there.

The full YouTube of the school is here:

For those who like shorter and set to music, the TikTok one is here:

Don't mind the weird look... I did something to my left elbow and it's driving me a bit crazy. Riding doesn't hurt too badly, but I wanted to wear my Back on Track brace just to help it out.

For added kicks, here's the video from our lesson 2 weeks ago as well.

Next show will likely be in September at this rate. We need the days to cool down substantially and we're just not quite there yet.

Hope you all enjoy!!

That's one hell of a horse!

Thanks!!! I agree with you 1000% He IS a hell of a horse and I am working constantly to be worthy of a horse this nice. He's much happier with me when I keep showing up with containers of his now favorite treats. (https://dimpleshorsetreats.com/) or (http://germanhorsemuffin.com/). He loves Granny smith apples also.

Thanks!!! It's been 4 years but I still think the best is yet to come, though don't get me wrong, we've had a lion's share of success to this point as well and I am thrilled with him on so many levels. He's just a very cool horse. I am beyond lucky.

Here's a regular old pic of him coming in from turnout the morning after his jump school. I was shocked, he didn't roll in the fresh mud at all. All his dapples are still bright and shining ;)

He looks fantastic - much stronger yet more 'with' you. Brilliant work from you both!

Thanks so much. Yea the strength and waiting has been a really big change and sooooo much more useful. He was great at his other shows this year so far.

Really can't wait for our next show.

I can’t believe it’s been four years already!
I still remember your horse hunt over here so well and you eventually finding Cudo, who was living about 10 minutes away from my house.
It’s been so lovely to follow your journey.

I remember that!!! I was floored that you were so close, because it seems like nothing is close to Penshaw EC. On the maps I just remember thinking HOW far away from all the big centers of England that I knew, that he was.

Chad was closer but Cudo was seeming to be in nowhere land. But I am not an expert, I've only been to a couple parts of England before.
