I've mentioned this on social media but for anyone who doesn't follow every last detail of Cudo and my life , Cudo prefers not to jump our normal heights (1.30 and up) in temperatures of over 82 degrees Fahrenheit/ 27 degrees Celsius.
So as a result we typically give him some time off or a lighter schedule in July and August. This year since we are revamping our ride style and skills to be better prepared for our bigger classes, we have done more lessons and brought in more true dressage/cavaletti work and even some lessons for me on pure American seat equitation (the show hunter style of riding) during this time. We have not given him the same kind of easier schedule this summer as we have in years past. I think it's been more beneficial and certainly I am hopeful that the fruits of these labors will appear in shows down the road for us.
This July, just solely due to weather, we ended up doing our jump schools 2 weeks apart instead of 5-7 days. As a result, he's been VERY happy when he does get to jump. Yesterday we schooled in our home ring for the first time in a WHILE. Cudo has historically not enjoyed schooling in their for a myriad of reasons and I am sure I added to it. But my trainer was at a show 6 hours away all weekend and he did need a school. So I dragged my hubby out to video. He was really good and I can really see the difference that the time we have taken and efforts we have made to improve things are really working. Thankfully it was raining and cooler when we jumped so he didn't get fatigued and was in fact quite bouncy here and there.
The full YouTube of the school is here:
For those who like shorter and set to music, the TikTok one is here:

Don't mind the weird look... I did something to my left elbow and it's driving me a bit crazy. Riding doesn't hurt too badly, but I wanted to wear my Back on Track brace just to help it out.
For added kicks, here's the video from our lesson 2 weeks ago as well.
Next show will likely be in September at this rate. We need the days to cool down substantially and we're just not quite there yet.
Hope you all enjoy!!
