Hiya, can anybody recommend me a nice pair of summerweight breeches? Currently wearing Pikeur Luganas, but I'm absolutely boiled during the summer in them! I was looking at Shires Portland, or Shires Mayfair ones - has anybody tried either of these, and if so, what are they like - fit, comfort and fabric? Or any other recommendations for something cooler than the Pikeur ones (I'm not exactly skinny!) Would prefer full seat/grippy knees if poss, and quite like the newer styles with the ankle cuffs instead of velcro. Thanks in advance! :)

Have a look at some of the "endurance" sites like Performance Equestrian and others as endurance riders know a thing or two about needing to keep cool over long distances!

They are expensive, and not always easy to source over here, but I bought a pair of Kerrits last summer and they did (I think so anyway) do what it said on the tin. You can get various types of Kerrits, these were the "needlecord" version of them. I bought them from the "16 Plus Rider" website. Be careful if buying straight from the US though - I liked Kerrits so much that, fed up of the limited selection available here in the UK, bought a job-lot of three direct from the US in an on-line auction, and was badly stung for import/customs duty. Ouch!! Not a good idea that.

I've also got a pair of Mark Todd light cotton breeches; these are lovely and cool for summer riding and don't break the bank.

I like the Blaze Chester jods, or Mark Todd (the light weight ones with the slanted zips on each hip...cant think of the style name..)

Basically anything that is that lightweight elasticy type material.
