My brown and lots of white baby cob, has a sore nose, despite my best efforts it's a battle to get suncream on his nose, he tanks off at the sight of the tube in the field, or at the house will not stand for the suncream to be applied, so not like him, would calamine lotion be a better option, protecting his nose without a daily battle, he's just turned 4yrs old and I feel I'm losing his trust, I've never had a coloured before, so this is new territory.

Mmmm.... calamine lotion can be a bit drying so probably not the best option.

Mine is a coloured with pink skin and a white muzzle: we've actually got the sun-lotion daily ritual thoroughly organised now!!

Just an idea: but would yours tolerate a fly-mask with a bit that goes down over his nose so he doesn't catch the sun in the first place? I can't use this type on mine, he hates, just detests, anything over his muzzle and will snort and sniffle and try to rub the thing off, so not an option for mine.

Sudocrem is a cheap and cheerful cover-up for sun and is soothing as well. Its very possibly the smell of the suncream that's unsettling your boy, he might find Sudocrem smells a bit better?? I apply it using a damp sponge, find it goes on much better this way and you don't have to apply the same amount of pressure & effort to get it on, this might be another thing yours is disliking?

All four of mine take great delight in removing fly masks, my cob is only four yrs old and has an effective mane to keep flies off, it's just his white muzzle that's vunerable, it looked so sore and scabby, I covered it in germoline, but it took two of us about half an hour to do it, because his nose is sore, he doesn't want a headcollar on and is realising how strong he is, not good, I have considered attaching a hankie to a headcollar and just leaving it on, but I also think there is an allergy to the buttercups going on as well, will try the sudacreme tomorrow as he is uncomfortable and I feel he is losing his trust in me

I have two cobs with very pink noses, one is also a four year old and takes great delight in pulling off fly masks and nose nets.

Have found gold label sunguard available at viovets works really well did take a couple of try's to get youngster to stand still but now he is fine.

It contains Shea butter, calamine and also a sunscreen so soothing as well as protective. Is really thick so just slap it on and leave.

Echo the Gold Label SunGuard for pink/white noses. This is the only product I've found that works with my coloured boy's nose and it stays on for some considerable amount of time too...even when he's got his nose stuck in his water bucket in the field and comes up for air with a nose that's wet through...!!..so obviously pretty waterproof!

I find if in this weather you put it out in the sunshine for 5 mins, it soften's it up and makes it easier to apply, but Yes,..it's pretty thick stuff initially. I'm still on my first tub that I bought last summer and this will probably/hopefully last this summer season too.

So the big thumbs up from me and my boy!, for this product as I can now stop spending ridiculous amounts of money on human/kids factor 50 plus suncreams! LOL

Sudocrem with added kids factor 50 mixed in, and a full nose fly mask.
Wont need to be done every single day but every couple of days.
Heals as well as protects the skin and as a barrier if touching buttercups.
Also use on heels and white legs.!
I fix a loop to the top of the mask and thread the headcollar through it so it stays on ;)

I use it all summer, but in winter just some sudo as a mud fever protector too.
My girl is a witch to catch to do, but the boys almost just about tolerate it, with feed to bribe them!
