On sunday I am going to see a pony ! She is unrideable but her owner would like someone to groom and fuss her, I'm so excited. What should I ask the owner ? Can I have some really good grooming tips, I really want to impress.

Ah how lovely!! Thats reallynice thast you are so excited even though she can;t be ridden.

Maybe you could ask if she can be taken for walks? Lovely way to bond with a pony. Also, what treats she is allowed, so you can give her a treat every now and then.

Don't forget to pick out her feet. Not sure I'm the best for grooming tips but its nice to comb through the mane and tail witha bit of 'mane and tail' conditioner if they/you have some, and a nice brush (like a hairbrush)

Hope it goes well. :)

She is 39 !!! A RS horse spooked with me last year and my riding confidence is low, even my RI said that I could easily pass the BHS stage 1 + 2 care section but my riding confidence would let me down. So yeah I am over the moon that I can look after a pony without having to worry about riding.

Awww, how lovely, I'm sure an oldster like that will adore some love! I'd be prepared to just put in a lot of elbow grease, as ponies' coats in particular tend to get woolier and greasier the older they get.

WOW!! Lucky you!! I love going down to the yard and grooming Horlicks, even though I don't get to ride all the time!! Its the best way to bond, and Horlicks completely changes when I take her away from the busy yard and pamper her, she loves it (although she does have a moan about having her mane pulled!!)

What breed is the pony? You could pull its mane if its not a native type. I enjoy bathing them when its warm, or just bath the tail. Practice some plaiting as well!!

Really hope you enjoy it!!

Good for you, what a lovely compromise, you can still enjoy horses without the worry and you will both have so much fun together, enjoy hun x
