I noticed this evening that my 6yo seems to be missing half of his left cheek! :O The right half seems normal but the half that's nearest towards his nostril on the left has disappeared! I can only think muscle wastage due to to favouring one side when eating but I brushed his face and I rode him Sunday and didn't notice anything odd. Another livery held him on the left side when I mounted and didn't notice anything either; she even put her hands on both sides of his face yesterday and didn't notice anything. He didn't indicate any pain when putting the bridle on or when ridden (and he's very fussy about the bit, will only have copper not steel). He's eating food and hay normally and didn't indicate any pain when I was touching the area or even when the skin where the muscle should be was held. He looks as if he is chewing normally, I've not noticed him quidding and when I put my hands either side of his face when eating, it felt the same both sides. I didn't think muscle wastage would happen that quickly given that he seemed fine on Sunday and I've only noticed today. As he seemed fine I haven't rung the emergency vet but will ring tomorrow. He is due for his teeth, so I'm thinking there's a problem internally (the lack of muscle is too far up to see if there's something there). Just wondered if anyone had a similar experience? My first thought was he's been favouring one side, it just seems odd that it's happened so quickly
