My farrier had a somewhat different reaction to M_M when I mentioned I was using SS.
After this post started I checked my studs (SS) before XC and three were loose, BUT had walked along a concrete path to the SJ which would not have helped.
I think Mike has proved that (all) studs can come loose and you should certainly check between phases.
