Is it quite common for horses to take a dislike to their bucket feed when using this suppliment?

I bought the Naff one at the weekend and for the first time put it in Mack's food last night and you could see he wanted to eat it, but he was bussy sniffing around it, sorting bits out, spitting bits out etc, he did eat most of it but was not keen on polishing it all off, as he's usually a greedy guts

It does smell a bit but I mixed it well in with his alfha/redigrass and mix..and his garlic...and his banana snax.

I feed it to both of mine and they dont have a problem with it, although I have heard that some horses do not like the smell or the taste. Especially in the first week when you have to double dose.

Could try adding something like molasses for the first week to disguise the taste although not sure if that would send him nuts?

double dose...eh.. what,where who???

Do you have to double dose?...didnt say so on the instructions, just 3 scoops a day in the food but thats for the 5 star super flex in the powerder form...unless I mis read it, I'll double check this evening!

I have been feeding it for years now so I dont read the instructions anymore. I seem to remember having to feed about 6 scoops a day (quite a lot of powder and my two still licked their bowls clean) for the first 7-10 days but perhaps they have changed the instructions?

I use the 5 star superflex in powder form as well and now feed about 4 scoops a day separated into 2 feeds (cant be bothered to faff around with half scoops).

I stared my boy on the liquid one 2 weeks ago; you have to feed 50ml a day for a 3-10 day loading period....but I started on 15ml, then 25, then 35 then 50 so he got used to the taste ....(it's just kicked in and I cant believe how flexible my old arthritic cripple is: v excited!) but the powder may taste differently.....

My mare hated it for the first few weeks and I was furious as I was chucking all this expensive powder away every day! I ended up changing her feed to the Winergy one (I did the feed trial) and when I realised how much she loved the feed, I started gradually adding the powder in again and to this day she has eaten it happily. Had pretty good results with it too - she's been on it 3 months now and definitely getting less stiff.

Oh well its good to know that its good stuff anyway.

Yes I had careful read of the feeding instructions last night and it definately does not state it has to be fed in double measures when introducing it.

There is two types of the 5 star Naff superflex (both powder form) perhaps I've got the different one.

as I noticed this when I picked them both up, one has a slightly different label on the front, unless it was an older/newer tub etc.

The old tub says double dose - just got a new tub and they have changed the instructions. The maintenance rate is the same though - 3 scoops a day.

My mare hated it for the first two weeks, I tried every trick in the book to get her to eat it and eventually she did but not entirely happily. I changed to the feedmark one and she'll happily eat that. Mine didn't have a loading period instruction either.
